Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Shadow database issues on Windows 10 (creating RMUF file)

I have an existing application that is shared on a server that has been operational for approx 5 years now. One of the client machines (all windows 7) has been replaced with a windows 10 machine. I installed the shadow database on this machine like I did all others and the shadow appears to run without issue. As soon as the computer is rebooted, executing the shadow database returns the cannot create the multi user file at network path error. I assumed it was a windows 10 issue reconnecting the network drive but this is not the case. The user can open and has full access to the network folder where the application is shared. Right now the user must re-install the shadow database every time his computer is rebooted. This of course is not an acceptable solution. Has anyone come across this issue with windows 10. At this point I am really stumped so any suggestions would be appreciated. FYI, the shadow database is run with administrator rights. My best guess right now is their is some type of new security feature with Windows 10 that I am not familiar with that is causing this issue.
    Thanks,
    James

FYI, the shadow database is located in the users documents folder if it matters.
    Thanks,

I had similar problems with Windows 10, but don't recall if it was the identical problem.

I was able to resolve my shadow problems by creating the shadow in the directory C:\Shadow. Might be worth a try...

Tim, I tried this and it did not work. Thanks for the suggestion.

The only other suggestion I have is...

We have about 12 workstations running shadows and all are running Windows 7 except two of them, which are running Windows 10. On all of our machines we have a mapped network drive mapped to the shared data folder on the server (we use drive R:\). For some reason the two Windows 10 machines must first access drive R:\ once with explorer before we are able to access the shadowed app shortcut.

When the Windows 10 machines are first booted up, the mapped drive is shown as unavailable with a red X through it. When we access it through explorer, the contents are shown, the red X disappears and then the shadow app will run as long as the machine stays turned on.

The mapped drive is available on startup with all the Windows 7 machines but the Windows 10 computers behave differently.

I've never found a solution to this other than train the users to do the above each time the computer is restarted.

          Hope this helps!

Sounds like a sharing issue to me in all cases.
I never use a mapped drive letter, but rather a path using the name of the server.
            likeL:
            \\servername\drive\appfolder\adbname.adb
            always seems to work.

              I also use a path:
              \\serverName\sharedFolder\appFolder\adbname.adb

I have tried creating a mapped drive but it does not work just like the path. Just like Tim stated, a reboot will place a red X next to the mapped drive until you physically enter the mapped location using file explorer. Unfortunately, I did try and access the database after the mapped drive was established to no avail.

Tim, on another note, have you tried to use a path instead of a mapped drive to solve your issue. If you do and it works, I would like to know.
              Thanks,
              James

I will try it tomorrow when at the office and report back.

                  James,
I redid my shortcut/shadow using the network path instead of a mapped drive and the application can now be started immediately upon startup without having to do the extra step mentioned above.

Unfortunately, I don't have any more suggestions to solve your issue but it's pointing to it being a computer issue rather than an Alpha issue.

                  Good luck...

Great. At least one problem was solved. I always figured my issue was with Windows 10. I'm just not sure how to go about solving it. Now that I know for sure someone else has it working with Windows 10, I can start to troll the Windows 10 help sites.
                    Thanks,

Just as a matter of interest we always force the shadow to be created in a specific folder on the local C drive rather than letting Alpha's default choice of My Documents as often the My Documents files are redirected to a folder on the network server thus totally nullifying any benefits of shadowing.

On creating a mapped drive, you may benefit from selecting that it reconnect on startup of windows.
MY shadow folder always under my runtime folder which is not in the program files.

                          Couple of long shots.
The builds need to be the same between the dev and rt application tools.
Win10 does not like outside influences changing files under its control. Try moving away from My Documents as Bob suggests. It's a permissions problem if the app and rt build are the same.

Thanks for the recommendations. I did try and change the shadow location to 2 other places outside My Documents to no avail. At this point, I am going with a complete re-install of windows 10 and try again. We used an outside party to setup this machine originally which I regret.

                              Well I know Alpha works on Win10 as I have it on site. Did you try running;
Run as administrator first time around.
Also run Compatibility check. ( go for Win7 ).
I doubt a reinstall of W10 will make a difference but it's your call. Try the above first if you haven't got the drains dug up already.
