Issue with defining askD

I'm attempting to define default values for ask dates in a report and have run into an issue.

Here's what I am attempting to define them as:
AskD_Beg_Date = {01/01} (would like it to default to the 1st of January for the current year)
AskD_End_Date = today() (would like it to default to today's date)

Once I save the report, the default values change to:
{01/01/2017}
{05/27/2017}

Is it possible to accomplish this using an ask date variable?

To do that you should build your own xdialog and set the defaults in it.

Use the genie to help build it - either from an action script or a right click in an xbasic script - rtclk - genies - xdialog builder genie

then run the xdialog from the (design mode) report - report events - OnPrintInit

or some how in a script or function you build.

This might work in the Print OnInit if your filter is using the same vars

Edit: on second thought if you define the vars in the report their scope would be shared

dim shared askd_begdate as d = date_value(year(date()),1,1)
dim shared askd_enddate as d = date()

repvars = <<%str%
AskD_BegDate
AskD_EndDate
%str%

btn = a5_prompt_for_ask_vars(repvars,session_variables())

?btn
= "ok"

If not SHARED variables, then GLOBAL

Haven't tested either.

I'm sure Mark will let us know..
