Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    append is blank

I have tried both append from rtfmemo to rtfmemo and memo to rtfmemo in an append operation. on some tables, it works fine and other not at all.
all fields append fine except the memo/fpt. they just come up blank
Doing this in a separated adb and in a separate folder then the tables and fpt files are copied to a production folder. All of that works fine

    Example how all are written:
    Summarytext @Erc_Summarytext->Summarytext

once I get them working right, they are transferred to a UDF to be run.
There are over 80 tables about 20 rtf memo from the old tables that were mostly memo
There appears to be no rhyme or reason why some do not work.
Yes, file sizes are all within limits and have been mem_checked

Thanks in advance for any help

    Re: append is blank

    Hi, Dave.

I don't have experience with this, but I'm wondering if you get different result if you copy the memo field data using xbasic script instead of a saved append operation ?

      Re: append is blank

I am actually using a function to do the append and it makes no difference, but I did solve it.
Actually going to give kudo's to slpha for the right way they do it.

      memo to memo = ok
rtf memo to rtf memo = ok
memo to rtf memo = ok
rtf memo to memo= Not going to happen at all in an append.

That is as it should be.
the new tables errantly wer memo and the old tables came up rtfmemo. changed the memo to rtfmemo and works like a charn so far. I think it is about done.

Other issue is how to split a very large(not corrupt) fpt file.

Actually there are 3 over a gig each and one is ove 1.5 gig. Yes, they honestly have a lot of real data in them and not the ones with the append issues.
I guess that is the next challenge

        If it helps others:
The oversized memo file is getting solved now. Seems the last programmer put in a memo field and a jpg image file. I rebuilt the table without a memo or jpg imege since the images are also saved in the memo. Made another table for memo and used the imag as a referece instead of imbedded. Cut abou 1 gig off the fpt file on disk.

Actually was 1.685 gigs and now 6megs on eth fpt file
