Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

  • Holidays Function Issue in Alpha Anywhere?

I am trying to use the Holiday function in one of my programs. To test it I entered one holiday in the Settings->Holidays form for September 5, 2015 (a Tuesday). Then I entered the following in the interactive window.

    ? bus_days_between({30-08-2017},{10-09-2017},"yes")

The result is 8 days, (it should be 7). When I change the date in the holiday table to September 15, it is still 8 days.

For reference, I am using Alpha Anywhere v4.3.2, build 4081.

Entering the same data into a copy of Alpha V10.5 that I still have, produces the correct results. Is there is bug in Alpha Anywhere that causes this function to not work correctly?

    Any feedback is appreciated.

    Andy

Sorry Andy, most rude of us.
The same thing happens in V11 - it appears that the start date is included and counted as a business day, so from midnight on the 30th to midnight on the 10th are inclusive.
You might want to ask Alpha (Selwyn) if the calculation changed for any reason. Maybe it's in the release notes somewhere.

Re: Holidays Function Issue in Alpha Anywhere?

                Selwyn,

Not sure if you monitor this forum, but if you do I appreciate if you can confirm if there is an issue or change with the ? bus_days_between() function in Alpha Anywhere vs Alpha V 10.5. The two behave differently.

The "bus" days calculations work correctly in Alpha V 10.5 as per screenshot.
The "bus" days calculations do not work in Alpha Anywhere. I confirmed this by using the same data, same command line in the two versions.

Attached are two screenshots, one from Alpha V 10.5, the second from Alpha Anywhere. Same data, same command line, different results.

Please let me know how to fix this issue?

                Thanks

Andy, to get Selwyn's attention, you need to send him an email direct.
                  selwyn@alphasoftware.com

You might be lucky and get a fix.

                      maybe try the date {Month/date/year} format. - not {30-08-2017}

i'm just trying this in my version of v12 , which is from last year and can confirm it doesn't work. it works fine in v11. it must have been broken in v12. i'm not sure if it' been fixed in any versions this year or not, as my subscription lapsed to due lack of updates for the price they want.

                            If you want this fixed, you need to contact Selwyn;
                            selwyn@alphasoftware.com
He doesn't monitor this board, so prompt him.
If the problem is screwing up a Line of Business app, ask him for a Hot Fix.
Yes, Alpha does Hot Fixes no matter what you read elsewhere.
If Selwyn doesn't get back to try Lenny, he's good too.
