Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: Multi select

    See attached graphic:

This is a graphic help I used to understand what I needed to write a selection list. I going through this again as I need the list to be populated by an complex join and then to update multiple tables when items are checked and unchecked.

The weird thing is that if the button is on the row level you have access to all data on that row, but if you put the button on the bottom of the grid you only have access to the rows and the key value for that row that has been selected.

I Placed a button on the grid row with an ajax callback where
    submit data is high,
    submit part is grid,
    row number is {Grid.RowNumber},
    callback type InternalXBasicFunction,
    Function Name ProcessSelected

Not sure how to do this either: a grid toolbar button on the grid

      Re: Multi select

What I'd really want to do is what Jeff Benson did in the enclosed pic. I have lab codes that are categorized and I want to have multiple columns with the different categories and have the user muli select and the insert into a detail table.

        Re: Multi select

Thanks Michael! Your pdf is very helpful in understanding all this java script, ajax calling, no coding required button.

I got so used to starting with Action Scripting in alpha that I assumed the same on the web-side and java scripting / ajax calling. I'm getting used to this new environment.

        Thanks again!

          Omar,

That is cool. Much different than what I have been working on. I need to write a secondary security system in addition to A5's.

            Re: Multi select

Is there any way to do this sort of thing by filtering the grid and then going through all the filtered records? I don't want to use checkboxes since the filtering will get me all the records that I want to change.

              Hi

You could open a new target grid using currentGridFilter() and process the filtered records. See video #49

              regards

                  Re: Multi select

I checked out the video but did not get any data about how to process the records. Using currentGridFilter() does not help because I am faced with the same problem: I don't know how to process the records on the grid. I assume that I would need to get a count of the current records first, but I can't find the command to do that. I am guessing it is available in the "e" object in my XBasic funcion, but I also cannot find the object model for the "e" object to look up the available variables.

                    Re: Multi select

I had to cast the countCHecked to Numeric in order for the loop to work correctly
                    Code:
                    dim error as L=.f.
                    dim error_msg as C=""
                    For i=1 to convert_type(e.checkboxRows.countChecked,"N")
                    	dim album_id as N=convert_type(eval("e.checkedRows.key"+i+"[1]"),"N")

                    	'do some processing
                    Next

                    if error==.f. then
'redirect to the monitor batch page
                    else
                    	BuildAlbumDelivery="alert('"+js_escape(error_msg)+"');"
                    end if
