Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: XHTTPRequest Error / 403 Forbidden

Bill I don't have the exact problem that you are having, but I do have a similar one.

I have a simple grid which acts as a parent table, with a second grid linked as the "child." Under normal circumstances there is no problem adding records to the linked child grid, but if the page has been left open for any length of time, the following message appears upon submitting a new record:

Fatal error running a5_ajax_grid(): Property not found rtc.pageCount subelement not found. (see screenshot)

The data DOES get submitted, but the user has to refresh the entire page to see the child (linked) records. I posted this problem in another thread some time ago, but got no solutions.

Maybe we are experiencing some type of a "time out" issue?

Re: XHTTPRequest Error / 403 Forbidden

I found this post because of some similar troubles with the 403 Forbidden message (following the steps in this post, Ive now introduced a new XHTTP 403 Forbidden message that I now have to figure out). I finally figured out that the difference between the same user login working/not working on different machines (i.e. a PC-specific issue) was indeed related to the cookies, but I had to look at it a while to figure it out.

The issue was based on the sitenameif a user logged into http://www.mysite.com, a hardcoded link in a Javascript button to something at http://mysite.com/document.pdf (without the www.) created a second (and therefore unmatching) session ID which led to a 403 Forbidden message.

The interesting piece (to me, anyway) is that Ive found that changing the same hardcoded link to http://www.mysite.com/document.pdf (with the www.) works even if they log into the system via http://mysite.com or http://www.mysite.com.

Note as well that hyperlinks appear to change from including the "www." to not including it depending on how youre logged in, but they dont within the Javascript events.

      Hope that helps someone...

Re: XHTTPRequest Error / 403 Forbidden

        Thanks Chris,

        And I'll add....

I'm having similar issues and I'm accessing my site via direct IP numbers. No domain names used at all. In case that helps someone figure this one out! Cause I'm at a loss.

In my case it seems like a "time out" issue, as everything works fine so long as I don't pause on a screen for more than a few minutes.

        Thanks,
        Bill

Re: XHTTPRequest Error / 403 Forbidden

I too had an older app (probably created in V7) that I converted for the web with the new 10.5 version. When going through the security setup, I had clicked on the "enable component security" portion.

After reading the posts, I was able to fix this by doing the following, which is very similar to previous posts.

          1) Web Projects Control Panel
          2) Web Security
          3) Component Security
          4) Click the Radio Button for "Ajax Grids and Reports"
          5) All of your reports then show up. I right clicked the one I was using in the tabbed UI, and it was shown as "always denied". I changed the setting to requires login, and set the groups that have permission for the report.

Seems to work great in IE 7 & 8, XP, Vista and Windows 7. I will test other browsers as time permits.

              Ken-

Just wanted to make sure you did the following, so it is not an issue:

              Go into Web Security
              Click Page Security
Click on File Types Always Allowed
add the file type of *.pdf as always allowed

Publish the security files to the local webroot and the server.

                hi Allen,
yes, i got this one ok and i have my report displayed ok.,
except where area designated as "memo" which is dynamic length, the report only show, 2 lines typical, based on the designed size?

the report just does not expand ....(i meant the memo portion)

yes your suggestion to add .pdf solved the problem,
i had in fact turned off some security bit, now i know
                  this trick... thanks

i just test it once more and confirm that i can only eliminate this error if i "unchecked" both..

enable component security for virtual page
alway enforce security at component level for Ajax grid

having done that, all my report works, but i worry that this would compromised overall security?

appreciate comment and argument on any potential "exposure" to the overall security and particularly the sql engine

I had to uncheck the two options in order for my report to run. As Ken had asked previously: is there any concern about the security on unchecking these two options?

                      Thanks,

Then kindly put the two securioty bits back, else we are exposed

                          Thanks Ken,

I didn't see the 'report' option on the component security. You are right - they weren't setup for my security groups. it works fine now.
