Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Path to report .ddd file - A Bug?

I am still trying to get web reports to work in A5v10.5. I've been trying to do this since v.9 for the past six months. No help from my last post.

    I get the following error:

Report did not print. Error reported was:
    Layout name: MCR1@[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\mcrfields.ddd
    Layout type: report
Error loading Data\MktgData\mcrfields.ddd: The system cannot find the path specified. Data\MktgData\mcrfields.ddd

So, among MANY other things like editing aliases and moving files around, I decided to look at the Xbasic behind the grid and found:

    ro.reportName = 'MCR1@[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\\mcrfields.ddd';

Note the "\\" in the path. A5 tells me I cannot edit the xbasic definition of the grid but must select "settings" tab. I cannot find a solution there.

    WHAT NOW????

I'm having a similar problem printing a report from a grid, where the report uses tables from two different directories. I think it's an alias problem. ?

Did you ever figure out the problem?

Re: Path to report .ddd file - A Bug?

Another 6 hours trying to solve this, searched the Forum found several other posts with same problem going back to 2010, but none had any solutions.
I have tried on two apps, 5 tables/reports and two computers, same results, works on localhost, fails on server. Get following message
Report did not print. Error reported was:
        Layout name: [email]company@[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\company.ddd]
        Layout type: report
Error loading Data\company.ddd: The system cannot find the path specified. Data\company.ddd

I know that is not true since I can view the grid with table based on same table
I have created a simple report with only 1 field,
to open the report I used the button genie: javascript->add action->open report
published grid and copied new ddd files to the data folder on the server
I have no filters/code in the report so it as simple as I can make it
I have included the table and grid files (just a 3 record table) if someone else wants to look at it

I had already tried that, but I did it again and it still doesn't work, same message " cannot find the path specified. Data\company.ddd "
I must be missing a setting somewhere. Thanks for your assistance

Re: Path to report .ddd file - A Bug?

No, I just tried calling it from a dialog to see if that would work and got basically the same message
                      Errors in: event.AfterValidate code:

                      Amyuni Low Level Print:
                      Layout name: company@[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\company.ddd
                      Layout type: report
Error loading Data\company.ddd: The system cannot find the path specified.
                      Data\company.ddd

For now I am attempting to do HTML reports instead, got them functioning, now if I can get them formatted I will have reports for my data base, a lot of work to get something that should have worked

Re: Path to report .ddd file - A Bug?

I just re-read the post and sorry if I missed this part. When you go to publish to the server...vice local..there is another selection that comes available. 'Publish Database Files'. In that section you can select the Alpha dbf files to publish...ie your 'company' table. Plus...check the box for 'Publish Database Library (contains SQL report definitions)'. That will cause your table to publish plus upload the report for it.

Already tried that, and manual ftp to upload files, and found correct file on server
The dbf files must be on the server or the grid wouldn't work

I had a problem that sounds similar to this where the .ddd file was corrupt. I restored a previous version from an older backup, and it worked. Don't know if that would help.

Don't think so, I have replaced the file, created new tables/reports and added reports to other tables, always get the same message, I just about have HTML reports figured out, so I'll go that way for now
