Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

          Hi Peter..in the screen shot shown the account number has a lookup attached to it. I added a message box to display a wait message if they decide to search or sort the lookup box. But after I do a A5.msgBox.hide(); it not only closes the wait message it closes the Lookup window.

          thoughts?

            First up - your project is looking good - well done.

            I'll take a look at that message - but have you looked at how to use indexing to speed up the search so you don't need a message?

            I often think about meeting you in the bar that night of the Alpha Conference in Boston at the Hilton - We actually should have got stuck into more about the product then. Anyhow a lot wiser now.. I'll come back to you.

              Actually it is pretty quick....it is seaarching through 411K records on a backend SQL server with Indexes. But in proper database design you don't index every field. I have used the wait message before and it works great.....never did it from a lookup screen which is causing it to close.

              back then at the bar It was way to early on for me to talk about alpha ... ha ha

                Are you adding the Message to the lookup grid?

                      Here is the screen shot.....when this is run independently it works fine. Its only when the grid is brought up as a lookup elsewhere

                        A5.msgBox.hide(); needs to be put on the afterquicksearch

                        I got this to work but I am still searching for where you would put

                        A5.msgBox.show('Searching...','<div style=\'padding: 20px;\'>Please wait while we search for the records.</div>','none',function() {});

                            Re: A5.msgBox.show

                            FYI ... here is the doc on this function :

                            A5.msgBox.show(title,html,type,onClose)

                            This fuction can be used to display a message box in the HTML that is done entirely in Javascript and HTML meaning that you can present the user with a customized HTML message. The 'title' contains the title HTML text to display on the message box. 'html' contains the HTML to display in the body of the message box. The 'type' is a flag to tell the message box what buttons to display. The values for this flag are:

                            * "o" - "OK" button.
                            * "oc" - "OK" and "Cancel" buttons.
                            * "yn" - "Yes" and "No" buttons.
                            * "ync" - "Yes", "No" and "Cancel" buttons.
                            * "none" - no buttons.

                            The 'onClose' argument is a Javascript function that will be called when the user closes the message box. This function will be passed a string containing the value of the button the user pressed ("ok", "yes", "no", or "cancel"). ed ("ok", "yes", "no", or "cancel").

                            Example

                            A5.msgBox.show('Save','Do you wish to save.','ync',function(button){
                            if(button == 'yes'){
                            // code to save...
                            } else if(button == 'no'){
                            // code to close without saving...
                            }
                            );
