Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Display Current Logged In User on Webpage

This seems arbitrary but I am looking for some code to show the name of the current logged in user on a web page? What I want to do is have some text in the header of my page that says "You are logged in as {user.name}".

Way more that what you were looking for but i use this in my tabbedui header.

    <img src="CSS/Headermed.jpg" ></div>
    <div style="POSITION: absolute; COLOR: #1a3347; TOP: 1px; RIGHT: 20px"><br >
    <%a5 ?session.__protected__userid %>&nbsp;<%a5 ?session.__protected__badgename %>
    <br ><%a5 ?session.__protected__storename %>
    <br ><%a5 ?date_format(date(),"Weekday, Mon-dd-yyyy") %><!-- <a href="login.a5w">Logout</a>&nbsp;<a href="em_profile.a5w">My Profile</a> -->
    </div>

Re: Display Current Logged In User on Webpage

      Chad,
Thanks for the code. When you are requesting your session.__protected__"variables" where are they coming from?

I am currently using this function from the wiki to show the usersid,
      Code:
      <%A5

      dim pUser as p

      a5ws_logged_in_user_values(pUser,request,session)

      if eval_valid("pUser.userid") = .T. then

?"You are currently logged in as: " + pUser.userid +"<br>"

      end if

      %>
What I would like to ultimately do is have a table set up with misc. user info like a full Name, company info and the ulink that can be passed as a variable. When the user logs in this table would be referenced against the logged in users ulink to get the correct data. I am sure this can be done but I think I need to dive into the Alpha 5 security a little deeper. If you or anyone has a recommendation of a post or book I would love it.

Re: Display Current Logged In User on Webpage

        Tommy,

Most of my variables come from an employee table, I use the employee number as my userid. When the user signs in it goes to a page that performs a lookup in the employee table and gets items such as employee-name, badge-name, store-name, store-id and email-address. You could use any field or result as a variable.
It also at that time checks to see if that employee is active if they are not it redirects them back to login. If they are active I get the variables that I need and it redirects them to my mainpage and then I can call any variable in any place needed.

Obviously as with anything in Alpha there are many ways to skin a cat but this one works great for me.

        Hope this helps

Again...thank you. You have been a great help.

But as always I have another question....
When the user signs in it goes to a page that performs a lookup in the employee table and gets items such as employee-name, badge-name, store-name, store-id and email-address.
The a5w page you go to for your table lookup, is that lookup info in a grid that is populated by the employee table or are you using xbasic in the background to do this?

If its xbasic I guess i have some learning to do...Just starting to wrap my head around that.

Yes It is xbasic, that is all that is on the page.

PM me and I can show you how mine works.

Re: Display Current Logged In User on Webpage

              Wooo Hoooo....

Ok just got it to work... this is what I did.

1st, I created a user table with fields that I wanted to call in a session variable. (i.e. usr_fname, usr_lname, usr_company...) I also made a field that holds the "ulink" name for the user and indexed the "ulink" field.

2nd, On my A5W page I added the following code (manipulated to my needs) in the head section. I found this on the message board from back in 2008 from Steve Wood. http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...ad.php?t=72021
              Code:
              <%A5
              session.vUserCompany = alltrim(lookupc("F",alltrim(session.__protected__ulink),"usr_company","user_data","Index_Keywords_For_Usr_Recid"))
              %>
This allows you to do all you dirty work in the head section of the page you are using. Which in this case I just made an include page for all my A5W pages so I only have to change things once.

              3rd, Add
              Code:
              <%a5 ? session.vUserCompany %>
              in the page body.

I think I have some opportunities to clean up my field names and what not but... that will have to happen on another night shift...
