Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    TabbedUI: a5_ajax_grid() error

    Any ideas, please! I have been working on this for a couple days now. I have read the notes posted on the forum, but have not been able to resolve the problem.

    I am running v10.5 on application server. I am using a TabbedUI, with linked grids, only 1 deep.
    The child grid is trying to open member_central_cmty_master.dbf, (which is also being accessed by the parent grid)

    alias for application server, set in project settings, is [PathAlias.ADB_Path] = c:\a5v10\data

    I get this error on the application server:

    Fatal error running a5_ajax_grid(): Error loading \members_central_cmty_master.dbf: The system cannot find the file specified. \members_central_cmty_master.dbf

    I have double checked that I am running the same patch versions both locally & on server, I have edited and resaved and republished the table and grids numerous times.
    It all works fine locally, but can't find the file on the application server.

    I have triple checked, and the correct version of the table is in the correct location on the server.

    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Re: TabbedUI: a5_ajax_grid() error

    recap: using tabbedui, opening a parent grid component that calls has a linked child grid. The linked child grid has 2 linked grids. the parent grid comes up fine, but the child grid will not come up as the dbf it is accessing cannot be found.
    This same dbf is also in use in the parent grid, is that a problem?
    can a table be opened by a parent AND a child simultaneously?

    I renamed the dbf file to a shorter name (I thought maybe the orig name at 27 characters was too long), edited all the files to account for the new name, republished all the files, and I'm still getting the same error.

    I also tried putting the parent grid in an a5w page, then using that page for the tabbedui button (rather than directly calling the grid as some have seemed to find this helpful). Still getting same error.

    Does anyone have any ideas here? I feel like I'm constantly trying to fix problems, moving forward is so slow. I'm to the point that I cringe everytime I try to upload changes to the web application, as rarely does what works in the "working preview" and even "live preview" actually work on the application server.

    Will be so greatful if someone can point me in the right direction, thanks !!! Kim

      Re: TabbedUI: a5_ajax_grid() error

      After several days, finally found a solution. I had the below code in the OnGridExecute system event of the child grid. This code worked perfectly fine in the Working Preview and Live Preview. I went through it with the debugger multiple times and never showed a problem.
      I removed all the code from the OnGridExecute and the TabbedUI is now working as it should. So, obviously an error on my part, just wish this stuff would show up in the working & live preview with debugger.
