Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Alpha Reports - Hide Detail if there are no records

Hi, I have a report which is structured like this

    Code:
    Year
         Program
                Payments

    Example
    Code:
    2011
                   My Program Name
                            Payment #1 - $250
                            Payment #2 - $250
The problem is that I need to hide the payment headers if there are no payments for that record, but Im not sure where this option is hidden.

I like to build a browse with the pertinent data that the report will see.

I'll guess that you'll see a blank in the fields when there is no payment info.

So you can build a conditional object that shows/no shows the headers based on values in a field in the payment record.

Re: Alpha Reports - Hide Detail if there are no records

Well, I already have the view/select this report is based on. Thats where the data is coming from.

However, the problem is that I see the detail headers even when theres no detail records (there should be a 'Print Header When No Records' setting to control this).
However, it doesnt seem like that exists.

The problem with trying to use a conditional object is that I dont know whether the record has any payments or not. It is possible that a record does not have any payments made on it. What condition should I check?

      Thanks

My point is to look at the browse of the data to help determine the best logical statement for the conditional object. - I understand, but, my point is that based on the data, there is no good logical statement for hte conditional object.

The conditional object should be where paymentcount==0 (for that particular id). ANyways, maybe ill write a function to include the payment count for each program id and include that in the set - although I really dont like that approach because I think it is a hack/slash approach (e.g not done properly).

Anyhow, thanks for your help - i was just hoping there was some sort of hidden setting i didnt know about for not printing a group when there are no records. ( i think other reporting tools have this ).

          Thanks for your help

Is this a dbf or SQL based report?

Re: Alpha Reports - Hide Detail if there are no records

              SQL Based:
              SELECT * FROM temp_client_account_statement_rpt
              INNER JOIN clientprogram ON temp_client_account_statement_rpt.pgm_client_number=clientprogram.pgmClientNumber
              LEFT JOIN clientpayments ON clientprogram.pgmID=clientpayments.pgmID

              CREATE TABLE `temp_client_account_statement_rpt` (
              `temp_id` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT,
              `client_id` varchar(32) NOT NULL,
              `client_name` varchar(255) DEFAULT NULL,
              `date_of_report` datetime DEFAULT NULL,
              `via` tinyint(1) DEFAULT NULL,
              `client_in_years` varchar(255) DEFAULT NULL,
              `pgm_client_number` varchar(45) DEFAULT NULL,
              `pgm_year` int(11) DEFAULT NULL,
              `initial_principal_amount` decimal(16,2) DEFAULT NULL,
              `initial_prepaid_interest` decimal(16,2) DEFAULT NULL,
              `interest_balance_todate` decimal(16,2) DEFAULT NULL,
              `current_principal_balance` decimal(16,2) DEFAULT NULL,
              PRIMARY KEY (`temp_id`)
              ) ENGINE=InnoDB AUTO_INCREMENT=10 DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1$$

The table above is populated by a script that calculates a bunch of things.

I think ill just do a calculated field lookup that will give me the count of payments against the current program ID and do the conditional object based on that.
