Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Embedded file and email display

Hi, I am using the file upload/download feature pack to successfully embed just about any file into a SQL Server database. The file display seems to work well too, with one exception; email (outlook *.msg file) that is uploaded will not display, I get the following (Microsoft Office Outlook) error message:

    Code:
C:\Users\sammy\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content..... The file may not exist, you may not have permission to open it, or it may be open in another program. Right-click the folder that contains the file, and then click Properties to check your permissions for the folder.
I have followed the file location, but there is no subfolder in "\Temporary Internet Files", however, there is an email file in there. If I try to open that to verify that is the file I want to open I get the same message as above (after a system warning). It does look like my file as the date and time are about right, but the file name is weird:

    Code:
    http://ourbusiness.co.uk/ourclient/__A5FileDownload.a5w?c=%5fa5filedownload&action=Display%20message&message=File%20%7bfilename%7d%20not%20found%2e&fileToDownload=C%3a%5cA5Webroot%5csession%5ffolders%5f%2d80%5c10e1a50463c546ecba8f870b1f2a5a91%5ctemp%2emsg
This certainly looks like A5 is trying to do something with the file, has anyone else come across this sort of behaviour? Does it mean anything to anyone? Thanks!

Re: Embedded file and email display

It would appear that this issue is resolved in V11, Selwyn kindly looked at my bug report and advised me of the following:

The .msg file is a special filetype associated with Microsoft Outlook

The .msg file is uploaded correctly by Alpha Five.

Howerver, when the file is downloaded, the .msg filetype is NOT recognized by the Alpha Five V10 application server, and so it sets the MIME type of the response to a generic MIME type. (text/html)
V10 does not have the ability for the user to add new MIME types.

In V11 we added the ability to edit the Mime type file, so to get your upload/download to work in V11, all that I had to do was edit the MIME type file (it is an XML file with over 50 entries, and add this line:

    <mimeMap fileExtension=".msg" mimeType="application/vnd.ms-outlook" />

then, when i download the file, i can click on it to open it.
    Hope this information helps someone!
    Take care,
    Will Burchell.
