Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

create red border around text box when field validation fails

    Hi
Am trying to understand how to start programming A5; know a little VBA and that's about it.

Have a grid with field validation (value required) on a few fields. Have chosen the icon method of alerting an empty field but want to change this. Would like the only alert to be a red border around the empty text box and no mouse-over alert messages, ie the only alert must be a red border.

How do I approach a problem like this?
    Thank you

There may be better ways of doing this but if you do the following it seems to work

    1) Use the Tip error style.

    2) Put   as the custom error message.

Re: create red border around text box when field validation fails

Thanks for trying to help but all this does is replace the error text with an empty space. The error text box (on mousing-over the error icon) is there there. I want to remove the error icon altogether and have no mouse-over effects. The only clue to a required field value must be a red border around the offending empty text box.

Where is the code that controls this. Is it Javascript, or xBasic, or CSS. Where is it? This is my gripe with A5, I cannot find any documentation to help send me in the right direction. Am not looking for someone to code for me, I want to try figure it out but I cant even find the starting point... . Thanks

Re: create red border around text box when field validation fails

I think the reason things worked for me before was that I had done someing with class and then deleted it but the effect remained.

On the attached you will see how the error style has been set and in the Class Name - Error Message I have put a name that does not actually exist and therefore (I think) this is the reason that no formatting is put around the &nbsp custom essage and does not therefore show.

That works, thanks DBM. Appreciate it.
Am still trying to figure where the raw code resides, ie the code behind the A5 configuration tools. Probably would not understand it but would like to know where it is. For eg if I click on a web grid in the web projects control panel there are three panes at the bottom ie preview, xbasic and information. But the xBasic cannot be edited in that pane so I wonder where the editable code is (apart from the config options in design mode)
