Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

image component: where is exif information / google map information

Don't get this working (showing exif info / switching panel to google). Not with the sample a5 images, nor with my own.

Is that information read from thumbs or from original (i see that the a5 sample thumbs have no exif information stored, perhaps due to resizing?).
I didn't resize my thumbs, and information is in it (according to explorer). Exif information version 0230.

did somebody else get this working? (don't want to overload the a5 team with false bug- reports in these days ;-)

You MUST have ImageMagick installed on the server and/or your development machine.
The IGC uses the ImageMagick identify program to pull the exif info, thus it must also be in your path.
A basic ImageMagick install will handle this for you.

You can get ImageMagick, free of charge from : http://www.imagemagick.org/

The exif info is pulled from the large image, not the thumbs.

Thanks Bob, but unfortunately no luck. on my W7 X64 What i tried:
      1. went to http://www.imagemagick.org/script/bi...vftgj2#windows and downloaded ImageMagick-6.7.3-1-Q16-windows-dll.exe
      2. when it did not cure the problem also followed the instruction 'If you have any problems, install the Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86) or Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x64). 64-bit Windows requires both packages (x86 & x64).'

And of course several restarts of the computer. The info button just stays hidden :-(

Did also the test at that page at commandprompt. Logo was recognized, the imdisplay opened, but empty, no image in it.

Its time to go bed now in holland :-)

I think this is crucial information to put in the wiki

          Ger,

For me it worked, did you add Imagemagick to your system path (as per default suggested in the ImageMagick installer)?
I think Bob should add a check in A5 & put out a warning if Imagemagick is not installed.

            Hi Frank,

A few days later (and some pathes further) it indeed suddenly started to work for me :-) I don't know how to put things "in the system path". Was planning to figure that out, but now the problem has miraculously disappeared.......

              Ger,

              In between messageboard reboots...

In W7 (others OS like XP is similar) Go to Control Panel / System / Adv System settings / Environment variables
Scroll to the Path variable & edit (put the full path to Imagemagick in front of everything & separate with a semicolon (;)

              So the beginning of your path would look like C:\Program Files (x86)\ImageMagick-6.7.3-Q16;

Note that you have to quit & restart Alpha because it only reads the system path at startup.

Exchangeable image file format. There are no "settings" for it other than displaying it of not.

When you take a picture with a digital camera then all relevant information like shuttertime etc + if the camera has a gps onboard like an iphone the location information is stored in your picture files as metadata. The standard used to write that information into the picture files is EXIF. So a scanned image won't have any EXIF information for example.
