Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Yes Selwyn, I've done that many times. But the problem, I think, is that I only have an .ALB file in my development directory. I do not have an .ALM or .ALX. I don't know how this could be, and still have the report stored and behaving correctly. Maybe things have changed since "the olden days"?

I was also wondering if there's a place where the publishing history cache is stored where I might see (and fix) what it's storing.

Yes, made the report dirty and saved. It's based on a SQL Datasource, so it has to be stored there. I've created another report with SQL Datasource too. Still, no .alb or .alx. Re-creating this particular report isn't a very attractive option, and should not be necessary, and if my other attempts to use the dictionary aren't producing these files, I don't know that this would either.

Update: I exported the report to an .a5pkg. Deleted it. Ran database compact. Re-imported the report. Ran database compact. Still don't have those files.

Have you tried making the report 'dirty' and save and republish ?
Or try to rebuild the report from the beginning ( I did it once and worked for me)

maybe in this way the missing files will be re-created...

Well now it got more interesting.

I had thought about a manual publishing, but dismissed it for now. So I thought I'd go try that, but I have now found that there is no .alx or .alm. And yet I do have my report and a few functions working just fine locally. I've never seen this before, and while I must be missing something, I sure don't know what.

Steve, have you tried manual FTP the files to the server?

I had the same problem previously - not with V11 - and i was doing just this to fix this kind of problem.

Be sure to publish your files in the right directory.

Back to this again. No matter what I do, I cannot get Alpha to publish the .alb, .alx and .alm to this server/project. It's working on other projects correctly.

To try to fix this, I've tried all sorts of things including:

    - Making sure I uncheck the Publish New or Modified Files Only and I clear the publishing history
    - I've edited and saved the report in hopes that Alpha would see these as updated files.
    - I've added, then later deleted, another junk report with hopes of triggering the uploads.
    - Added and edited existing functions.
    - Run Database Compact

But in the list of files to publish, only the .alb is showing up -- not the other two, so , no report.

Is the list of previously-published files something I can find and edit maybe to try to force this?

    Or, any other ideas?

The problem with PDF printing is now solved!!

Solved by Clive - Zebrahost!! where I have my Hyper-V server running. Thank you Clive!!

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH ALPHA5 OR THE CODE CREATED BY ALPHA5 V11.

THE PROBLEM IS CREATED WHEN THE APPLICATION SERVER IS RUNNING UNDER -ALWAYS UP ... (Thus restarting the Application Server when the system goes down automatically)

IF YOU USE ALWAYS UP YOU HAVE TO USE YOUR ADMINISTRATIVE LOG-IN CREDENTIALS ...

that was what created the system to fail !!!!

Thank to Clive - Zebrahost, this is solved.

    Steve,

I had this issue a couple of builds ago, but it went away and has not come back. It was consistently failing on 2 win 7 64 bit systems till the update with the new amyuni driver, so I thought that fixed the problem. I also did update my Acrobat Pro X at the same time. I have had some weird things related to Acrobat lately. Try uninstalling Acrobat and installing foxit reader

I'm not having any success either. I notice the error message is kind of odd -- what I produce below is verbatim copy. The Quote part has me wondering.

Report did not print. Error reported was:

    Layout name: Quote@C:\A5webroot\MYFOLDERHERE\db.alb
    Layout type: report

SQLReporting 6 - DataSource record for Layout not found.

Tried everything below. Anyone else found a solution?

FYI - XPS printing does not work in Working Preview, just Live preview or from the server.

Thanks for clarifying. Yes it's selected. So having said that, the HTML, Excel and TXT exports quit working too.
I 'm going to reinstall the XPS next, just for a sanity check.

    Hi David,

The Microsoft XPS printing (or Amyuni) has NO relation to Excel, TXT or HTML export. Only with PDF printing.

Are you sure you have activated "Use Microsoft XPS" in Project Properties > PDF Printing Options ?
