Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: Problem Printing PDF reports after new installation of V11

Well - none of the above have worked! I have reinstalled numerous (6) times, dropped and reloaded print drivers, re-published the entire site and all support file, and a few other tricks.

Is there any definitive solution to these issues, as we have them every time there is a major update to A5. Playing the message board guessing game is getting old. And (not to start a value debate) for what this stuff costs, these solutions should not be so frustrating and time consuming.

Does the Microsoft also convert to Excel, txt and HTML output for use with the feature pack? Amyuni does not function for that anymore, and I have tried all the suggestions above.

In my Application Server the new printing system (XPS >> PDF) was not working (ERROR: Could not open OLE object 'cdintfex.document.4')

Alphasoftware sent me these adittional instructions and the problem was fixed:

    ***********************************************

Go to the AppServer interactive window & type:

    Dim doc As ole::CDIntfEx.Document.4

If you get the error message:
ERROR: Could not open OLE object 'cdintfex.document.4'
    Then do this:

    1) open the command window as' administrator'
    2) cd to \program files (x86)\a5v11 ApplicationServer\ AmyuniV4
    3) Re-register the activex controls for PDF:

    regsvr32 cdintf.dll
    regsvr32 pdfcreactivex.dll
    regsvr32 acpdfcrext.dll

    Then retry the dim.
    *******************************************

if A5Server was run manually from the desktop of the server (without leaving the desktop), the pdf printer problem with does not occur, this solve for us, but cannot run the server from scheduled task or as a service

No. In theory it should be slower because if you want pdf output you have to go through the extra step of converting xps to pdf.

But if you can't get the PDF printer to install (for whatever reason), then having this additional option is nice.

The Microsoft XPS Printer does not rely on the Amyuni printer driver. It would be irrelevant if you deleted the 'AlphaFivePrinterV4' or not.

Howerver, the conversion of the XPS file to PDF does rely on the Amyuni ActiveX control which Alpha Five installs. Deleting the AlphaFivePrinterV4 does not uninstall the Amyuni Activex control. Howerver if you uninstalled the Amyuni activex, then the conversion of the xps to pdf would fail. I

Having said all of the above, there is no need to remove the AlphaFivePrinterV4, nor is there in benefit in doing so.

    Selwyn,

Does this mean you can uninstall the Amyuni printer/driver? Or does the XPS_to_PDF() function still rely on it ?

Re: Problem Printing PDF reports after new installation of V11

For people having problems with the Amyuni PDF Printer driver that is bundled with Alpha Five, we have just released a new option in V11 to use the Microsoft XPS printer driver instead of the Amyuni PDF Printer. If you choose this option, then the resulting XPS file will be converted to PDF automatically before being sent to the browsers.

More details about this new feature are in the V11 Release Notes.

If you use SQL backend for your reports, maybe you should try to re-publish database library (check option "Publish Database Library" in publish Dialog box). I would also backup whole current "A5Webroot" folder and publish into brand new empty folder, just to check if some file mix-up could be a problem.

After trying all of these ideas this is the closest I can get to viewing any reports. No error reported, just won't show the report. Any more ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Report did not print. Error reported was:

    Layout name: estimate@D:\A5Webroot\bhvac.alb
    Layout type: report
