Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Very frustrated - moving from v10.5 to v11 ....

Been with alpha for years, and absolutely cannot say enough good things about them. Awesome!!!!!!!!!

But, moving from one version to the next always seems to cause problems, at least for me.

    1. I am still stuck on the issue of files not appearing in the web control panel. Without that I cannot do any work. I have been working on this for 3 days. Would somebody, hopefully from alpha, please help with this. It is difficult for me to accept this as a hardware issue, as it occurs on the 2 machines I have tested, and even if it were, this should be addressed. I can publish the files, but I can't see them so I can't edit them

    2. When I do run the 10.5 application in v10, almost every page causes the user to be logged out. Does anyone know what to look for in what might be causing this.

And finally, it would be nice if Alpha could provide a few page summary of "Issues you might encounter in migrating an application from v10.5 to v11"

    OK. I'm done venting ...

Why don't you make a short video about your problem?

Re: Very frustrated - moving from v10.5 to v11 ....

All you should do to test V11 and migrate is:

copy the folder containing your V10 project database prefix the folder v11 so you now you have the right folder
      open that folder with v11
change the webroot publishing folder and the alias if necessary.
remember you can set the V11 server to use a different webroot say v11webroot in the server settings
SQL connections strings etc will all work as will the dbf's and security.
you will now have a totally free standing v11 version of your database
      publish it
Both servers can run V11 and v10 no issue - like i said separate the webroots until you are happy it's all working.
      Hope that helps.

I moved all of my files just like Pete said and was up and running after it analysis was done and published.
Very few issues to speak of at all.

It came from a lot of trial and error as I was learning V11 throughout the Beta Process - it's the safest way to do the transition. - Glad it helped: Pete.

                Hi Lenny,

This is certainly essential information. I was informed of it several days ago by Eric Luitjens.

Unfortunately, the information is useless to me presently because I still cannot get the web projects control panel to display my files. Any progress on a fix for this issue?

Re: Very frustrated - moving from v10.5 to v11 ....

I just installed the new version on two machines, my desktop and my laptop. Because of a few "hassles" in getting the files in the right spot on the desktop, I opened my database in v10.5, did a database BACKUP, and then opened version 11 and did the restore backup. This seemed to put all of my files back in the web component folder, images, etc.

It might be worth a shot to try it this way to see if this will resolve your problems.

I've upgraded the app server on my Zebrahost server, and still working with issues on the default page, however, I must commend Selwyn, et al on this .... the files published on the first try. Those of us who had a devilish time publishing on v10 appreciate him immensely with the ease of publish on v11!

I am doing something similar. I exported from v10.5, and am currently importing in to v11. When it finishes, if it doesn't work, I'll try your way. Thanks
