Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Beta licence spooks around :-(

Last week i got my licence for V11 and applied it to my devellopment environment (went through the activation process). Today i get message that Special licence has expired on startup "contact alpha..." from the programm. And closes alpha directly after that. How to deal with this?

Of course i can download and install again, but that shouldn't be necessary. And I don't want to because it will, if succesfull, consume my second licence activation instance for my backup machine.

The program interface is closed but i see in taskmanager that alpha5 proces still is running!!!!!!

Same problem for me since this morning. I was still running the beta version I suppose, since I never entered my new licence key.
I tried the following : I uninstalled A5V11, uploaded the last full version from the link provided with my licence mail and reinstalled everything. But I still have the same message "You are using a special licence for Beta testers. The Beta period has expired. Please contact Alpha Software".

Who are we supposed to contact ???

Pete, Thanks for the technical solution, was stumped this morning - but went low tech, changed the system date to yesterday, started Alpha, changed licence and reverted.
Nice to know how it should be done...

Beta users were sent a notice about this, this morning.

Yep, I got the notice this morning, then tried to follow directions and Alpha would not open. Then, this is probably embarrassing to admit amongst a bunch of technical gurus, but I didn't have any idea where to find the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Alpha Software\Alpha Five 11.0\USER to delete it. Have never done much with registries. I keep wishing that instructions like they sent wouldn't assume things. ANYWAY, thanks POWERGEN, for reminding me of the low tech, change date to yesterday, workaround. I think that just saved me a bunch of frustration. Gotta LOVE this message board!

Re: Beta licence spooks around :-(

From the Window's start menu, select run, and enter regedit. That will display the registry. It's a VERY good idea to backup the registry before making any changes to it. You back it up from Regedit using File/Export...

Peter - Yes indeed, I got Martins email an hour or so ago - but it just depends when your morning started, us old "GMT boys" are on the ball a little earlier perhaps.

Ah yes, but I think you guys are running now. I emailed Brett earlier in the week as suggested, but haven't heard back, so right now I'm dead in the water.
I'm sure he'll get to it tomorrow, but even though I am a Charter member this is the second time I've fallen thru the cracks. Maybe I'm a "special" Charter member???
I have other things to do today anyway, lots of honey do's, so as long as I can get going again by tomorrow, I should be okay.
                      Alan

In all fairness I went back and it looks like I sent the email on Friday just before 3pm Eastern time, so I can see where Brett may not have gotten to it yet.

Now I'm getting worried. No license yet from Brett.
Brett/Richard, can someone help as this is now starting to impact my work?
                        Thanks,
