Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Web2Cal and Recurring Events

OK - this may be a dumb question. I know that the Web2Cal calendar is capable of doing recurring events. What I haven't seen is how that's set up to be done in Alpha 5. Anyone out there done this yet? Can you point me to the docs?

Thanks in advance, especially if this is a bonehead question.

Need to bump this up the flagpole. I really need to know if Alpha plans to support recurring events or if I should be working on this the "hard way"

Eventually I will need this as well. I imagine that I would do this in code by updating my table with the recurring records.

        Re: Web2Cal and Recurring Events

I'd also like to know if Alpha plans on adding to their calendar component the ability to use Web2Cal's built in recurring events. It seems like we need to buy a license from Web2Cal, pay Alpha for the interface, but not have all the features available for our use. I'd be OK with Alpha allowing us to customize the calendar component. I'd also like to add the Web2Cal quick add feature.

This is getting important - I don't mind if it's planned for the future - but I need to KNOW. If it's NOT planned, I need to get on it and get implementing this asap. I really need a peek at the roadmap here. Any Alpha Central comments appreciated.

            Re: Web2Cal and Recurring Events

Update - in case anyone else is keeping an eye on this issue... I exchanged emails with Selwyn on this topic this morning. It would seem that the team is planning to implement Recurring Events, but due to the current pile o' stuff to add to the system, timelines are murky. I can totally understand that. I will implement some temporary workarounds to keep my clients happy, and then look forward to doing it the right way when it's implemented in Alpha. Since the main Event integration table followed the Web2Cal data structure to the letter - I'll probably do the same with Recurring Events on the thought that it will make it easier when the time comes to synch it all back up.

Has this been implemented yet? I am trying to use the calendar component in my project and I need recurring events but it does not seem this feature is available in the Alpha5 version.

                Re: Web2Cal and Recurring Events

Any updates on this? Was thinking to auto generate calendar events by looping through a specified end date but it seems to be a bit elaborate to generate all the logic if Web2Cal already has the function in the script. Apparently there is a repeatEvent object according to Web2Cal developer guide on recurring events (http://web2cal.com/recurring-event) but how can we access that object?

                  Re: Web2Cal and Recurring Events

Alpha really needs to "bump" this up the priority list. Alpha promotes Web2Cal as a component. A recurring event is a very common and needed option of any schedule. For the amount of money it costs to purchase the license, this is a MAJOR shortcoming of the product.

Come on guys.....fix this problem or at least provide us the information how we can include the event!

I know. I would buy it if I had not already forked over the money to web2cal. There are some other jQuery calendars available that could be adapted to Alpha with a little programming. When I get time I am going to tinker with them.

                              Hi All,
For whatever is worth, I invested in Jim's calendar, and it was a very good choice (frankly the only one I could afford at the time ), Calendar is rock solid, with ton of extra features for the end users, most recent, been able to import a standard ICS file which will allow the users to import the appointments to any calendar client like Outlook, Google, etc.
This application has 70+ users creating appointments for student classes daily, currently the calendar table has more than 10,000 rows and growing and performance with the calendar has not degraded.
