Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

How to Link Tabbed UI Buttons to Grid

I have several buttons on the left side of the tabbed UI to open various grids which need to link to one particular grid. How do I make the link or bind them? The closest I find in the properties is filtering but that doesn't quite make it.

Just add another component, select one more time same grid and then set different properties for this selected grid.

How about the "link" property ? Can you give a more detailed example of what you are trying to do ?

Re: How to Link Tabbed UI Buttons to Grid

The components in my tabbed ui are tables, like child tables in a set. They are linked by an ID number. When I click the link property, I can select the ID field form the component which is considered the target Grid’s primary table. That field, is filled with this value; click on the down arrow on the right of the box, and a ‘set value’ window pops up where the “Set value for link’ is entered which is supposed to be ‘from this component’. What is ‘this component’? it would have to be the parent or master table to which the ‘primary table’ is linked. The only way to connect to that is to enter the path to the field in that table.

BTW, once you enter the path, it cannot be edited or deleted, even though there is an ‘edit’ button. One must enter a new path and it is added to the list in the dropdown box. Entering a path name doesn’t work. When the component button is pressed, the ID field is filled in with the path rather than the value from that field. I think I’m on the right path but the wrong syntax. This is what I tried:

        C:\CassRgnFpi - Web11-7-11\t_investigations.dbf->fpinumber

So, what is the right syntax?

I don't understand what you are trying to accomplish. Give a simple example with the invoice headers & invoice line items table as an example

Ken, regarding to your last post, look like you don't need what I propose first. I was thinking that you would like to use same web component on two different buttons (re-use) but with different settings.

If you would like to connect two tables together like are in the set (parent - child relation) then the easiest way is to use Row expander. Check this video. Otherwise try to present some visual presentation what you would like to achieve.

Also check AlphaSoftware Media Library. Above video is also from there.

I, too am confused as to what you are trying to do. Perhaps a video would help? When you say the components in your tabbed ui are tables, do you mean Grids?

I could not find the Row Expander in the Tabbed UI. The video shows it on a grid.

Thanks for the suggestion. I do appreciate your comment.

I have a Tabbed UI created by clicking New->Web->Tabbed UI Builder. The component buttons are some of the grids I created, each grid based on different tables. This would be similar to a set on the desktop. The first button component is like the parent tables and the other button components would be the child tables in a set. what I need to do is bind the "child" components to the "parent" component. There are all linked by an ID field.

The Tabbed UI Controls contains each component and their properties. The only place I see that might link the components to each other is the Link property in the Component Definition section. Please create a TUI as I've described and see if it's possible to link the tables together. Since this is used on the desktop, I don't necessarily need to use the TUI but it is a handy easy way to show my tables in one view without going to a lot of design work. It's looks and asct very nice and is a quick way to get the job done.

Yes, you have to use Row Expander on Parent Grid to link child grid to that grid. Then you add parent grid to TUI and there you will see parent grid with child grid below.

                        Ken,

All of the linking to child grids is done outside the TUI. Think of the tabbed ui as a menu system (although it is much more) There are plenty of videos regarding row expanders and linked content on the wiki under V10 web features. Good luck.
