Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Server in demo mode

It's Saturday, so I'm casting a general net here, and I haven't seen any recent threads on this:

Friday night I upgraded my server from V10 to V11. All looked well, until this morning I discovered this:

    403 Forbidden

This server's demo mode has expired. This server was previously running in demo mode because it is not licensed for remote access. The demo period has expired so now this server can only process requests from the same computer on which it is running by using the URL http://localhost/.

To purchase a server license, visit the Alpha Software website at http://www.alphasoftware.com/

The server is licensed and activated, using the latest build. I've exited and restarted the server several times. But it keeps timing out.

Any "new" ideas on what else I might do?

    Re: Server in demo mode

Steve, I actually saw that message this morning when looking for additional info on your Fusion Charts Genie.

I'm guessing its the upgrade, I had the sort of similar issue during the changeover when I forgot to get my new licence into Alpha5 before the deadline. I wouldn't even hazard a guess as to the technical fix - but before the guys suggested the registry solution/ I worked around my own issue with the licence input by setting the system date back a couple of days.

Depending on what you use the server for - this might get it back in operation but could cause login and other time related issues for you. At least it might get you to Monday and some support unless someone a lot brighter than me jumps in.

      Steve,

I ran into the same thing yesterday as well. I noticed that the activation had a red ball so I reactivated and then restarted the server and got the green ball and all seems fine now.

There might be a glitch in the activation process that makes you do it more than once.

        Re: Server in demo mode

I had the same thing on my windows 2008 server, after 2 tries of reactivating the license, I got the message:'Please disable UAC temporarily and activate the license'

I didn't even know windows server had UAC, but yes.. after disabling UAC and rebooting license activation worked OK.
Then I activated UAC again, did a reboot and all was well.

        Hope this helps,
        Anne Olivier

          Activation shows green.

Several server (not just A5Server - the whole server) and still no dice -- it keeps timing out as if in demo mode. Been at this one (not constantly) all day and still it insists I don't have an activated license.

Edit: New joy. I deactivated the license to see about re-activating it, and now there's no action at all when I try to Activate again. Click on the installed license #, click the Activate button, nothing.

Steve, did you clean up the Beta stuff before you installed the V11 WAS or IDE production release?

              Re: Server in demo mode

I didn't have a beta install of this on this server. Fresh, brand-new license and download, immediate patch up to current patch.

Manually edit your configuration file and make sure you don't have a V10 license listed. This could happen if you used a copy of your V10 configuration with V11.

Yup, that did it, that was the problem. I think I should have noticed that earlier. Thanks.

Make sure to not use the v10 config file as there are some changes to the config file in V11. If you are using Always up this is an easy one to miss.

                      Re: Server in demo mode

While the Application Server Settings UI will not allow you to add a V10 license (or any other invalid license), you can still have one specified by the server if you have used your V10 configuration file for V11.

In this case, you will see that it is listed as an activated license (if it is activated under V10), but it shows that it is valid for 0 sessions and the Licensed Sessions indicator will show "localhost only". However we agree that this is not clear enough and understand the confusion presented. As of the next patch, a license from a previous version that is in your configuration file will not even be displayed in the Application Server Settings.

                        Re: Server in demo mode

This (the demo mode expired) also occurred to me and I have not upgraded from V10.5 to v11.
I was away from Nov 1 until just today (Nov15) and found I could not use the server.

I reviewed the licenses and my server license and all the feature pack licenses were no longer listed.
I plan to reenter them when I locate my documentation and I hope that will correct the situation.
I feel that the Activation police have reached out and touched someone, namely me.
