Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Image Upload Page different from one computer to the next

Both computers are on version 11 build 2291-3841 yet my home computer has fields: Upload Folder, File Exist Action & Store Filename Transformation Expression. My work computer does not have these fields. See attached image. Why would that be? FYI: I am on the Trail version but will be update from 10.5 at both locations.

if you are uploading an image to a text field we prompt for the upload folder because the image will be stored in a file on the server and the text field will contain the image name.
if you are uploading the image to a binary field we don't prompt for upload folder because the image will be stored directly in the record as binary data - so the upload folder meaningless and irrelevant.

My grid contains a ImageID field and an ImageName text field. When I add a button to the grid and try to add an Image Upload action I get this message: "You Grid does not have any Image fields into which an uploaded image can be loaded". It doesn't give me the option to upload image to text. What determines whether it's an Binary or Text upload?

if your target field for the image upload is a binary field (.jpeg or .bmp in the case of a .dbf table, or varbinary in the case of a sql table), then you are going to save the uploaded image directly in the table.

if the target field is a character field (or linked image field in the case of a .dbf) then you are going to save the filename of the uploaded file in the table and actual file itself in the upload folder.

Thanks Selwyn but I think something is incorrect.

My grid has a text field. I add a button. When I try to add an Image Upload action to that button so I can place the filename in that text field, I get this message "You Grid does not have any Image fields into which an uploaded image can be loaded" (see image above). To get past this message I have to add an binary field to the table and to the grid, but I don't want to a binary upload, I want a text upload. If I do add the binary field I get past the message but I don't get the three text upload fields for the action. As I'm adding the action, something in the software is determining that I want a binary upload even when I want a text upload.

I tried recreating the grid, rebooting my computer, uninstalling and reinstalling the software. No luck. I do not get this same issue on my home computer. Both run Windows 7.

i am extremely doubtful that the issue is a bug in a5, but i am prepared to take a further look. please send me the component from the computer where it is not working.

I think you forget to set the control type of the text field to be an "image" imct.png

Re: Image Upload Page different from one computer to the next

Changing the control type to "Image" gave me the additional options in the Image Upload action that I expected.

FYI: Since I also want to see the filename in the grid, I added the ImageName field to the grid so it shows twice. Once with the ImageName field as a Image, Once as an alias field with the fieldname ImageNameFilename as a textbox so I can have the image displayed and I can show the filename for that image. That is helpful during development.

                Thanks for you help.
