Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Server Side Event Works In Grid but Not Dialog Component

I have a grid with the following code in the onInitialValueCalculate server-side event:

    dim loadnum as n = dbmax("[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\dispatch_board.dbf","Clientid",e.rv.session.__protected__clientid,"Client_Load_Number")
    e.newValues.Client_Load_Number = increment_value(loadnum)

Works like a champIn a grid component!

I would now like to convert this grid into a dialog2 component.

When I right click on the grid name in the component list and choose create dialog component from this grid component, assign a new file name and let it rip, I get a script error and it shuts down the whole Alpha 5 v11 program.

So, I took the above code and copied and pasted it into the onDialogInitialize server -side event in a new dialog2 component. I know these are two different events but onInitialValueCalculate is not offered as a server side event on a dialog. It doesnt shut the program down but when I run the dialog component on a live a5w page, I get the following error message:

Error executing onDialogExecute event: Error executing event 'onDialogInitialize ': command: dim loadnum as n = dbmax("[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\dispatch_board.dbf","Clientid",e. Property not found e.argument subelement not found.

I need the highest record in the Client_load_number field filtered by clientid (This is the session id).

Then, I am trying to increment (add 1) to the Client_load_number field in the dispatch_board.dbf table, based on the highest (last) record in the Client_load_number field.

Any help here would definitely be appreciated!

Where, in what component, and how are you setting e.rv.session.__protected__clientid?

Re: Server Side Event Works In Grid but Not Dialog Component

      Here is what we did:

We changed "e.rv.session.__protected__clientid" to "e.session.__protected_clientid". Apparently dialog components don't get passed the session id's like happens in a grid component. That's the best way I can describe it. I'm sure there is a better technical description...

We also replaced "e.newValues.Client_load_number" with "e.control.Client_load_number". Swapping "control" and "newValues".

This is giving us the results on the dialog that we were looking for.

The number that is displayed in this field is incremented correctly and displays properly in the grid. The problem now is that the number is not being saved correctly in the table after hitting the submit button. What gets moved to the table is "0" for some reason...very strange.

Still wonder if anyone knows what is wrong now???

      Thanks!
