Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    import package in ajax callback?

    Hi

I'm wanting to run some xbasic code in an ajax callback page but I want the code to be dynamically loaded from an external function at runtime. Is this possible? I found the 'import package' function is supposed to do this and in the alphapedia article is does not say this is restricted to the desktop however I get an execute error when I attempt this in the ajax callback page.

Can anyone tell me if this does work and if so how to do this or alternatively is their an xbasic equivalent to the javascript eval function?

    Thanks,
    Gavin

Re: import package in ajax callback?

Not an expert here, but Xbasic code is often placed into the code tab instead of the grids, then they are compiled into an aex file. If you create an aex file I believe it will need to be referenced in the properties tab of the grid.

I assume this is what you are talking about.

I just built a couple of ajax callbacks and placed them in the code tab. But I haven't compiled them into an aex file as of yet, but will by the time my app is ready to go.

I am still too new to all of this to know if there is an eval equivilent in Xbasic. Although I do know that a lot of people think that eval is overused in JavaScript writing, and should rarely be used. (At least that is what I keep running into online as I am attempting to learn all this stuff.)

Re: import package in ajax callback?

I'm not wanting to use either grids or dialogs - actually need to create my own as they need to be dynamic - so putting them in an aex file does not appear to be an option. I have tried to set up a regular xbasic script that uses an import package command but still get the 'Exception executing XBasic instruction' error. I must be missing something important here but Alphapedia does not provide any extra help.

Re: import package in ajax callback?

I have just tested the same use of the import package command in v10.5 and it works as stated. The very same code causes an exception error in v11 so I think I need to raise a bug report.

Import Package command not working in V11 but did in v10.5

The import package command works as it should under version 10.5 however the same code in v11 raises an exception error. I am running Windows 7 and have all the latest windows and alpha five v11 updates. Is this the right area to raise a bug (or suspected bug) issue or is there another procedure I should use?

you can send to alpha. go to help, submit a bug report.

the import commands are working in v11, so the problem is likely specific to your particular case.

it is therefore absolutely essential that you provide a test case that allows us to duplicate the problem.
