Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

SQL Server and A5 Application Server

I' trying to migrate everything to SQL Server.
After the installation of SQLExpress 2008 R2 I get the following error message when I try to start the application server:

[Mon Dec 26 11:01:10 2011] [Startup Failed] WSAEACCES - Permission denied while binding socket.

    Detailed Description:
An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions.
An example is using a broadcast address for sendto without broadcast permission being set
    using setsockopt(SO_BROADCAST).
Another possible reason for the WSAEACCES error is that when the bind function is called
(on Windows NT 4 SP4 or later), another application, service, or kernel mode driver is bound
to the same address with exclusive access. Such exclusive access is a new feature of Windows NT 4
SP4 and later, and is implemented by using the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option.

Can anybody tell me what I have to do?
    Thanks!!
    Dietmar

Did you allow remote connect to the database server and enabled your network provider in MSSQL network config

I was working with A5 application server (for the live preview) and DBFs without any problem.
After the installation of SQLExpress 2008 R2 on the local PC I cannot start the A5 application server on the local PC any more.
          Error message as above...

Re: SQL Server and A5 Application Server

Your explaination is a little confusing. Do you mean when you start the a5 app server you get this message, or is it after you have started your application and are trying to view a web page in LivePreview? Second question is do you mean the standalone A5 Application Server or do you mean what you would use when you view pages in LivePreview - which is NOT the standalone A5 Application server. Alpha developer comes with a 'local' app server which fires when you use LivePreview. And have you rebooted, etc.

              Ok, I try again:

              - Reboot: more than once...
              - after reboot I start A5 V11 on my local PC
              - I open an existing database
              - I try to start the application server
              - I get the message: The server cannot be started
              - Error message as above.

Before the installation of SQlExpress 2008 R2 no problem.

Thank for any hint, what I can do!

Re: SQL Server and A5 Application Server

Are SQL Server Reporting Services installed? If so, port 80 is probably in use by this service.
Either reconfigure or disable the conflicting service or simply use a different port for the web server.

Re: SQL Server and A5 Application Server

Thanks a lot, that was the reason.
I could not uninstall or shut down the Report Server (I gave up after serveral hours...) so I changed the port of the A5 ApplicationServer from 80 to 81.
Now the server is starting again.
Is there anything I have to change in the existing A5-projects due to the change of the server port?

                  Thanks again for the help!
