Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: How to retrieve data from MYSQL database using Xbasic?

    Suvarchala,

I've seen a bunch of questions from you on this board but I seem to have the impression you have not been looking into the available documentation such as the wiki. You are not going to get a lot of help this way.
You could have easily found this yourself: http://wiki.alphasoftware.com/Learni...ith+SQL+Tables

What country are you in? Would you mind indicating that in your profile? I am advocating for this so that fellow developers can better understand some specific issues that may be region related.

        Hi Frank,
I got an application to develop in Alphafive v11. So, as I am new to it and I am a fresher and thought I could get better help by asking questions and getting suggestions to complete the project in time. I am already going through it, but few are not clear to execute. In my application, I have to create database tables to show the page in grid format, next iam using CRUDL options, next for one screen, I need to take information for almost 40 times for different value, that should tie to one particular record and it should generate a result and according to that result it has to generate reports and that particular reports has to store in a list format and able to Read, print, download, send an E-Mail. I am fine with all the other things, but I am stuck at this area to take information for almost 40 times for different value, on click on button that should tie to one particular record and it should generate a result and according to that result it has to generate reports . So, if you have any suggestion please let me know. Thanks for your reply.

        Thanks & Regards,
        Suvarchala.

I too am a relative new comer to V10 and V11 but will be pleased to assist/learn. However, I do not understand your objectives or how you are trying to achieve them, in particular "take information for almost 40 times for different value". Nigel

            Hi Nigel,
I have an Web Based Application which is being developed by Alpha Five V11. How to retrieve the data from database using Xbasic code?
I have tried to get the data but while executing connection object.execute(SQL Select Query) Ex: Conn.execute(sql) it is returns the value as false, it means query is not executing.

I want to store the values of database in local variables. So, I want a sample code where I can able to solve the problem.
Please let me know the solution for the error occurred.

            Thanks & Regards,
            Suvarchala.

if you are new to Alpha, should focus on alphawiki
there are tons of samples and video.

i don't understand why you would need to try xbasic to
do your web , just use the Genie can perform more than
              average requirement.

i hardly need any xbasic to get my web going.
i would expect you to have more issue with security etc.

since you know java better than most of us.
i find it hard to understand your intention.

                Hi Ken Tjia,

                Thanks for your reply.

In my application, User Input values should store in database that values I need to retrieve from database,
that values are going to participate in calculation in A5W page. So for that reason I am storing the database
                retrieved values in local variables.

So, that's why I am using Xbasic.

                Thanks & Regards,
                Suvarchala.

Re: How to retrieve data from MYSQL database using Xbasic?

A user should be able to input data into a grid or dialog, and Alpha should be able to store that into both a database, and/or a variable. What is the specific calculation you are wanting to accomplish? Could you just build a grid with a calculated field in it?

Re: How to retrieve data from MYSQL database using Xbasic?

I guess I was writing my post as you were posting yours.

Okay, I am still trying to get out of newbie stage here, and it seems like what you are doing here is a little complicated. My thought would be buttons, or images as buttons. Maybe with a freeform layout to properly place the images. Then using an onclick event for each button to open another "grid" with more buttons/images, and using inline javascript, or other action javascript to create variables. These variables could possibly be placed into a grid, and submitted to fill the SQL tables.

I have used the Xbasic SQL learning link posted above, to help build an Xbasic function that directly accesses my MySQL tables. I currently try to find ways of accomplishing my goals through Alpha instead of building Xbasic or JavaScript functions right now.

Also there are a few things I don't understand about what you are trying to do. Do you really need to store the button clicks in a database, or just in a variable? I could be mistaken, but I am getting the impression that this information is not needed to be stored after the session is over. Sorry if I am mistaken, but trying to get a handle on this so everyone can best help you. But if you don't need to store the information permanently past the users session, then I wouldn't even worry about putting any of that into the database. But if you do need to store information more permanently, make sure it is only the information that needs to be stored more permanently.

I should add that Xbasic is more for use on the server, while JavaScript is better used in the browser.
