Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How to retrieve the data from database based on condition?

    Hi,

    I have written a query using a condition as shown below:

    select * from decay;
    select * from decay where pid=2;

    For the above two queries, it is giving me only 20 arguments,
    but instead I need all rows from database.

    Issue:
    =====
    1. Instead I need all rows from database.
    2. The resultset's nextRow() is not returning any thing.

    I want to use each and every element in database for calculation purpose of one value.
    So, Please do help me out in solving this issue.

    Thanks & Regards,
    Parveen.

    Re: How to retrieve the data from database based on condition?

    Need more info:

    Is this a query for a grid, something in an Alpha 5 function or are you running this query outside of Alpha?

    Your query 1 will return all rows from the database - that is what it is designed to do. Your second query will only return the data with PID = 2 - I have no way of knowing how many records that is.

    Can you give me the table structure? Maybe a screenshot of what is happenning?

    What database is the back-end? MySQL? MSSQL?

      Re: How to retrieve the data from database based on condition?

      Hi Larry Grupido,

      Thank you for your early reply.
      Issue:
      My query is "select * from Decay"
      While executing connection object.Resultset(conn.Resultset) its returning only 20 values
      from entire table it should return more than that,and ResultSet.nextRow() method is returning false.
      My table contains totally 16 columns.Please let me know.

      Thanks & Regards,
      Parveen.

        You answer only one of my questions.

        Where are you running this query? Are you running it from a grid? From a function in Alpha5 or are you running it from the back-end software? What database are you using? (MYSQL? MSSQL?)

        How many records are in the table? Is Decay a table or a view? How many rows should you have with PID = 2?

          Re: How to retrieve the data from database based on condition?

          Hi Larry Grupido,

          Thanks for your reply.

          I am running the query in xbasic(A5W page).
          No, I am not running it from a grid, I am running it from a A5W page.
          I have no idea about the back - end software, I have used function to run the query.
          I have used MYSQL database.
          There are 64 records in a table.
          Decay is a table.
          With PID =2? it should have 32 rows.

          The main problem is:
          After executing conn.ResultSet , it is storing all records in results set. But, I want records row -by - row.
          I am facing problem with rs.NextRow();, it is returning false.

          So, Please let me know the solution for it.

          Thanks & Regards,
          Parveen.

            using rs.nextRow() should work.
            are you testing for an SQL error condition ?
            to test for an error you can output conn.callresult.text to the webpage or similar

              Re: How to retrieve the data from database based on condition?

              My suggestion:

              First: Build a grid over the decay table and look at things from there. If the grid is showing all the data, then you know that Alpha5 CAN access all the data in your tables.

              If you can't see all the records in the grid, you may have a problem with the table itself.

              You need to get software, such as Navicat, that will allow you to work directly with your MYSQL tables, without using A5, and troubleshoot from there.

              If you do not have such software, how did you build the tables in the first place? How do you know how many records are in Decay?
