Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

I thought later I should have noted that the 501 messages started showing up sometime between the 2-29-12 patch and the 3-13 one.

    Thanks again.

Re: Notice: If you are getting 501 errors, read this

I've been encountering the "501 method not implemented" error occasionally for over a month now but it has been much worse the last 2 days. I've received numerous customer complaints and don't see a pattern. Sometimes it even happens when all the user is doing is exiting a tabbed UI to return back to the home page. The site uses SSL and is running on Server 2008 R2 with WAS Build 2549-3903 which is the most current production version available. I tried turning off "Keep Alive" but the site ran so slow I had to turn it back on 15 minutes later.

Much appreciated if anyone has any info or direction on this

Re: Notice: If you are getting 501 errors, read this

Do you have ajax callbacks built into anything, to set variables, populate dropdowns, etc? I thought I'd seen a correlation with those, but if you haven't specifically got an ajax callback on a tabbed ui tab closing, maybe not.

The prerelease patches supposedly fixed this problem, but it's not the case. I've emailed with Jerry at Alpha about it and he asked me to let him know if it remained with the latest prerelease patch, but that's apparently introduced a host of other bugs that I'm not wanting to deal with.

Many of the tabs have ajax callbacks, but.... the 501 method error has happened even if the grids with callbacks are not opened.

Also want to mention this is happening with IE7, IE8, IE9 and Chrome

We are also getting intermitant 501/505 HTTP errors under https usually in the browser response but sometimes in a message box. error.JPG . No error is logged in the server XBasic log.

For what it's worth, Lenny (at Alpha) emailed me yesterday and asked me to reproduce the error in my application while logging some things, so they're working on it. Hopefully the logs I sent him last night will trigger some clarification on their end of what's causing it. I do still get it in the 5/29/12 prerelease, though.

Lenny, I am getting this error on 2549_3903 using SSL and Firefox. Do you still want information on this. Also received similar 501 error when using the latest pre-release on the WAS.

Re: Notice: If you are getting 501 errors, read this

I am getting the "501 Method not implemented" errors as well on all 5 of my sites (build 2549-3903)
Couple of pieces of info from what I am seeing
                  1) happens with IE7 & IE8
                  2) happens on pages/grids that do not have an Ajax callback
                  3) can happen on any page (login, grid only, grid with detail view, and reports)
                  4) I have not seen it when using dialogs
                  5) I can go a few days with no errors and then on other days they happen frequently (4 to 10 per hour)
                  6) Does not appear to be related to the amount of traffic.... one example: I'll see them happen when there's less than 10 users actively signed on -but- not get any when there's 40 or more active users
                  7) Once they start happening frequently, they just keep coming until the WAS is restarted
                  8) I keep a close eye on the error logs for each WAS and they are free of errors except for the "501 Method not implemented"

Like so many other Alpha customers, these are production sites and this error is a real black eye
I would be happy to provide any info or logs needed to help remediate this issue

Re: Notice: If you are getting 501 errors, read this

Guys, Lenny may address it with you individually, but I've been testing some things with him last week using the prerelease build from 6/1/12 (sorry I don't have the build number). Based on my inability to reproduce the error where it was easily reproduced on our site, and none of our (internal application) users reporting these errors all last week after I specifically requested they report on them, I think Alpha has found and fixed the problem. He did note that they had intentionally slowed down the application server to fix the surface problem but they had fixed the source of the problem late last week and the application server was supposed to be back up to speed. I don't know if that's in the latest patch or not.

Yes, please download and test with the latest prerelease. Thanks to a great deal of help from Chris, we are confident that we have found the root cause of these problems and fixed it.

The prerelease from Saturday also has the decreased performance removed, so you should expect it to operate at full speed.

                        Hi Lenny

Can you share a target date for when the pre-release will be production ready ?

                        Thanks, Dave
