Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    dialog calculated field error

I took the invoice template, and modified it for inputting receipt data. Worked fine until I realized I needed a way to set up the repeating section so that each item could either be taxed or not. Well I set up a check box with a default check. I then added a hidden field (copied the extendedTotal field, and it created extendedTotal1.) I added an if statement so that the field would be filled with the same info as the original field, but it would be 0 if the check box is not checked.

I then changed the tax calculated field to:
    ( * TaxRate ) / 100
Pretty much all I did was add a 1 to it. But testing it, it worked exactly how it should.

Next I modified the grandTotal field (again adding in just the 1) like this:
    ( + (( * TaxRate ) / 100) + shipping
Now suddenly I get an error with the javascript, telling me that it's Unable to get the value of the property 'total': object is null or undefined.

I remove the 1, and the error goes away, but then it doesn't filter out the taxes.

Because the tax field already has the number I need, I tried this:
    ( + tax + shipping
Lo and behold, it works. But with issues.

If you change the tax rate, or make it 0, it updates. If you uncheck the box, the tax updated, but not the grandTotal, until you change the tax rate.

So I am confused as to why just adding a 1 will cause one field to fail, but not another, and why using a different variable results in the other issues I mentioned.

All these fields are unbound calculated fields, so no data is actually affected. But I know people will be confused. If there is a glitch, people will find it, and this one is pretty easy to find.

    Re: dialog calculated field error

Well, I tried to just copy the working field, resulting in EXTENDEDTOTAL3, and did not make any changes, then reference it instead of 2, and it still doesn't work right. So even though it is an exact duplicate of the field in every way except the name, for some reason using it instead of the original results in an error.

But I did find that changing the action script in the afterDialogValidate from enter new record after submit to edit the record, and it works. The error goes away.

Now unfortunately this gives me a problem with 2 other fields. I have a drop down box that stores an ID and shows a company name, but it also fills in the address, though unbound. These unbound fields clear out after submit. They are only for reference, but it would be nice to not have them vanish. And the same thing occurs with a lookup field in the repeating section. It is also an unbound field, and it supplies a reference to product ID that is stored in a hidden field.

The first unbound fields, I may be able to work around easily enough, but the second is filled in through a lookup that opens a grid with cascading choices, with data based on 3 tables. (Using defined group breaks.)
