Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How to refresh Linked Content Grid Automatically?

    Is it possible to have a grid defined as linked content to another grid automatically refresh when you click its tab pane?

    Thanks in advance

    I couldn't figure a way. I added an action button to the grids to do it manually.

        Has anyone come up with a solution to do this automatically that they are willing to share? I too have a refresh button but think there is a better way.

        If I make a change on the parent grid the linked grid does not get refreshed with the new data unless it has focus (the tab for the linked grid is selected).
        I thought 'refreshLinkedContent' would do it but I was wrong.

          I ran into the same problem.
          I expected A5 to refresh ALL of the linked grids, but it does not. I also tried to find some way, but no sucess.
          Tried the onRowFocus-event, does not work as well.

          Still no solution?

            Search for the property "auto-refresh on expand"., I think it is fairly new. Is this what you are looking for?

              I don't think that solves my issue.
              I have two grids in tabs both linked with the same field to the parent, but showing different content. That seems to be the reason.
              I sent a bug report to A5 yesterday.

                This is identical to another response I left in another thread - though, looking back on things, I probably should not have left this in the other thread because it was a version 10 thread... whoops! Maybe someone will come across it there and find it helpful.

                I wanted to refresh a linked grid when I clicked on the tab, so I did did a bit of FireBug investigation to figure out how to register an event handler when the tabs for the relevant pane(s) are clicked.

                In my onGridInitialize event - because you only want to register the event once! - I added the following (note: my "NAME_OF_LINKED_CONTENT_SECTION" is EmpHours; you will need to replace EmpHours with your content section's name):
                Code:
                // define event handler for pane tab click
                var onPane1Click = function () {
                    //Panes are 0 indexed:
                    //  0 = pane 1
                    //  1 = pane 2
                    //  etc...
                    //Must quote pane number
                    var paneGridObj = window[{grid.object}._linkedGrids.EmpHours["0"] + "_GridObj"];
                    if (typeof (paneGridObj) !== 'undefined') {
                        paneGridObj.refresh();
                    }
                    return;
                }

                // register event handler with pane tab's click event
                $e.add('{grid.componentName}_LCS_EMPHOURS.0.TAB','click',onPane1Click);
                The component name of the linked content grids are stored in {grid.object}._linkedGrids.NAME_OF_LINKED_CONTENT_SECTION:
                linkedContentSection.png

                Name is case sensitive, so you want to match exactly.

                The ID for each pane tab, you use "{grid.componentName}_LCS_" + The name of your Linked content section all upper case + "." + Pane number (starts at 0) + ".TAB".

                Each {grid.object} is stored in the window. You can get the grid object using window[{grid.componentName} + "_GridObj"]. The {grid.componentName} for the grid in each pane is in the {grid.object}._linkedGrids.NAME_OF_LINKED_CONTENT_SECTION object.

                Hope this helps someone.

                Edit/Update
                I have my linked grids displayed below my Detail View. I discovered they are destroyed and recreated every time I navigate a record - possibly because of some setting I have turned on/off. I moved my event registering code to onDetailViewOpen to solve this issue. I don't know if the linked content tabs are destroyed/created when you navigate each row if they're displayed with the grid. If that's the case, I suggest trying the code in the client-side onRowSelect event. More experimentation may be required if that doesn't do the trick.

                  Re: How to refresh Linked Content Grid Automatically?

                  Ah. The solution I had above only works in detail views. I had to hack together something else to get it to work in a grid with a row expander. I added this to the onGridInitializeComplete event for the child grid - the linked grid, not the parent grid:

                  Code:
                  var po = {grid.object}.getParentObject();
                  if (typeof (po) !== 'undefined' && typeof (po.gridId) !== 'undefined') {
                          var pId = po.gridId;
                          var myId = '{grid.componentName}';
                          myId = myId.split("_");
                          var end = myId[myId.length-1].split("G");
                          var myTabNum = parseInt(end[1] - 1);
                          var myTabId = "TAB_" + pId + "_" + end[0] + "." + myTabNum + ".TAB";

                          if ($(myTabId) !== 'undefined') {
                                  $e.add(myTabId,'click',function(e){{grid.object}.refresh();});
                          }
                  }
                  Putting this here for reference later in case I need or someone else comes across it?
