On Submit create New Recors in Another Table

Hi All

I am trying to figure out how to go about creating a new record on a different table when clicking on the submit button on my grid.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to achieve this.

that would be by use of a mySQL trigger then within the database itself (Toad has a trigger tab for each table in your database), something I am trying to learn myself so far without success, but hopefully someone on here will point you in the right direction. Or if you manage to get one working maybe you could post it on here.

Lance is correct that a trigger will do this for you.

An example might be:

CREATE TRIGGER %triggername%
BEFORE INSERT ON db.%tablename%
FOR EACH ROW
BEGIN

INSERT INTO tablename SET  (field1, field 2) values (new.fieldname1, new.fieldname2);

END

I use Navicat so only have to worry about the bit from BEGIN until END

Another way could be to use xbasic an an Ajax callback but that would take more coding

Thanks so much for the heads up Glen, it was the new. that I was missing. Got my first (of many) triggers working as follows

BEGIN
  insert into testcal (
     Subject
    ,StartTime
    ,EndTime
    ,IsAllDayEvent
    ,Color
    ,Editable
    ,Groupid
  ) VALUES (
    new.Ref
    ,new.date_return
    ,new.date_return
    ,1
    ,'9'
    ,1
    ,'6'
  );  
END

If Jim Coltz sees this I think he will work out what I am doing, and it works brilliantly.

No problem but go steady they can become quite addictive
