Onchange Event

Hi All

I have built a desktop application and am in the process of trying to develop an online version of this.

On my desktop version I have a form with some radio buttons on them and on the onchange event I have the following code to populate another field (acc_dam_upholstery_image) with the location of an image:

Action is conditional : acc_dam_upholstery="Yes"

dim tbl as P
tbl = table.current()
tbl.change_begin(.t.)
tbl.acc_dam_upholstery_image = image_filename_encode(a5.get_path() + chr(92) + "images" + chr(92) + "tick.jpg")
tbl.change_end(.t.)
acc_dam_upholstery_image.Refresh()

And:

Can anyone assist me in what would be the best way to replicate this on my online radio buttons.

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know the desktop side, so I frankly can't make out exactly what you're doing. Here are some thoughts, but use the builders to make sure I'm right about th {grid.RowNumber} kinds of things.

Do you need to have the image stored in your database? Or just evaluate the radio button on your grid and show an image? If you just want to evaluate it's really easy to do.

Add your radio button and get that set up the say you want. Then, under the list of Available Fields, at the bottom, click the Insert link and add an Image where you want it. Under Image Properties, click the Image Definition button and a Conditional Image dialog will pop up. Click the choice for Client-side for "Evaluate Conditions where:". Now add two conditions. My Radio button field is called "Posted" so my conditions are

Posted = 1
Posted = 0

The builder will let you choose the image displayed for each condition.

You said onChange event, so I assumed that's where you were. Re-visiting it, though, I did make some jumps in assumptions about your familiarity there, though--sorry about that. Within the field properties of the radio button, under Javascript, open the property for onChange.

Then, with Action Javascript selected, click Add New Action and then Inline-Javascript. This brings up a blank canvas for Javascript, which is quite daunting to the uninitiated, but click on Insert Method to see all the builtin Alpha functions there like the {grid.Object}.setValue(); and {grid.Object}.getValue(); I referenced in my previous post. They will tell you what to put as function parameters. Back on the blank canvas, click on the Insert placeholder link to find things like {Grid.RowNumber}.

Short syntax lesson for Alpha users new to Javascript from one who had to learn it that way myself--it is case-sensitive, so use 'G' for the Grid part and 'ACC_DAM_UPHOLSTERY' for your field. Variable types are loose, so I generally use single quotes around everything other than numbers being compared. A semi-colon at the end of each statement, and // to comment out everything else following in that line.

I'd suggest using what Alpha's got in there, but in terms of understanding it better, refer to Alpha videos and w3schools.com/js has some good tutorials on Javascript itself.

Just to push a little bit... why store the image. Just curious. Do you really need to?
