Window Position relative to other control in grid

I have a v11 grid with a button that opens a dialogue.

Due to the width of the dialogue I need to position it relative to another item on the grid row. The item that I want to align to is: DD_TITLE

I have this working: {grid.componentname}.TD.R1.DD_TITLE

The only problem is that the row is hardcoded - I need to make this dynamic so that it opens in line with each row.

I have tried:
{grid.componentname}.TD.{rowNumber}.DD_TITLE
{grid.componentname}.TD.{grid.rowNumber}.DD_TITLE
{grid.componentname}.TD.R{rowNumber}.DD_TITLE

But nothing seems to work.

It must be easy to pass in the row number dynamically but I just can't figure it out - Any suggestions please ;-)

Hey Kevin,

You have to be really, really specific in this case... we need more information. The solution, so some degree, depends on where you're using this code... in a client-side event or a server-side event... and which event.

Post the Event, and/or where you're trying to do this. You can make it dynamic.

Answers here are tested before posted (except by those who dont' need to 'cause they've memorized all of Alpha :) ). We need to match your conditions in order to test and then provide the best answer.

Sorry for the lack of detail.

I have a v11 grid attached to a mysql table.

I have added a button to each row in the grid. On the button I have an OnClick javascript event to open a grid component (Action Javascript) in a modal-popup. Everything works fine but I would like to position the popup just below the row I am on and under the client name. The client name field is DD_TITLE.

Using {grid.componentname}.TD.R1.DD_TITLE in the window position relative section the modal popup opens perfectly for the first row button but because R1 is 'hardcoded' the window opens just beneath row 1 for all the same buttons on each row. I would like to know how I can make the popup open beneath the row that I click the button on.

Thanks Kevin... that is a perfect question. And a really cool one too.

There are two ways to get a row number in Alpha... depending on where you are. In a "local" javascript function... like a Button Click... {Grid.RowNumber} will get replaced with the row number and all is fine. However, in a global javascript function, the functions under Code, Client-Side Events, and for example afterGridSubmit, {Grid.RowNumber} won't work. In this case, if you want the rowNumber then you do this...

//place this Javascript in your code, and then reference the rowNum variable.
var rowNum = {Grid.Object}._selectedRow;

So, when I run into a problem where one type of code won't work, I try the other. In this case it works... almost.

{Grid.Object}._selectedRow does return the select row, when used in a Relative Position Control ID, but not fast enough. So, we need to set focus to the row you're on before calling the dialog.

In your button call, the relative postion Control ID needs to be

{grid.componentname}.TD.R' + {Grid.Object}._selectedRow + '.DD_TITLE

Be aware of the single quote marks. When you're typing in your Control ID, it will seem that the quotes are not balanced, but note that Alpha5 puts in it's own quotes and so the result is balanced. Also be aware, that if you edit your ControID your single quote marks will be lost.

Now, to get the row focused before the dialog call add another Action Javascript to the Button Click. Choose Inline Javascript and put this code in.

{grid.Object}.setSelectedRow({Grid.RowNumber});

And now move this Action Javascript line to the top, to be run before the dialog call.
