Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Human cloud platform:

    Hi,

Anybody have experiance with designing and building human cloud applications? Example for matching service-providors with customers, in a web application, such as www.elance.com

I want to build one, but if I want to start out right with prefereances to build something sustainable.

I look at it as set of multiple small projects or products built to fit in a system of whole, example; one customer database, linked to a mail and communication application to share information and files with a second customer database application, linked to a service and product list, linked to a automated invoice system, etc etc.

I know it is big, but identifying each element that has to be built leads to braking up the tasks at hand and make it doable. I sure hope Alpha can rund such program without some technical limitation.

Anybody have a small piece of advice for me, links, or experiance, and maybe there are some things in Alpha already created I might use! Anyhow, I would appreciate it :)

    Kind regards,
    Tommy Nilsen.

    Re: Human cloud platform:

    Hi Tommy,

I think you can definitely build what you are talking about with Alpha. We built and are operating a cloud based business application using Alpha Five (https://www.petsitclick.com -formerly Bizz Support Solutions we just changed the name).

I am not sure about your technical background, but building a scalable cloud based application can be pretty challenging. Even though Alpha makes building the application pretty easy, you still have to understand database design, data load balancing etc. And setting up the security properly is very important as well. Remember that people will be including personal information on your site most likely so it puts a burden on your company to ensure that the data is kept private.

So I would say technically speaking Alpha can definitely do the job and we wouldn't use another product, but the project you are proposing is a big one and if it is your first foray into website and database design you might want to start a little smaller to get your feet wet.

    Cheers,

    Scott

      Thank you Scott,

Interesting and nice looking application you linked me!

I am happy you think Alpha can do the job. I remember from a training video in Alpha, the host say, don't try to make any super application that can do everything, cause that will be problematic. Question remained; will this be a superapplication? :)

I appreciate your thoughts, and yes it will be big with much interconnected challenges, also of legal character as you say. I would characterise this as a long term goal.

In terms of my technical background, I would say my "feet are wet" in many ways, but I havn't developed anything near this big, I've read some books about system-design and application-development and have all kinds of resources at hand, but have no recipy :)

What I do now is documenting and gather data from many different Virtual Assistant (VA) providers to identify whats required of form, function, content, business modell and so on, so later on when I can picture more in detalj the scale and scope of difficuly for the project, I will be more able to see if it is viable for me!

But please anyone, I am happy to learn more from you in this developer community.

      Kind regards,
      Tommy
