Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Tabbed UI Menu duplication/display problem

Problem with TabbedUI menus that are duplicated in FireFox, but not in Alpha Five.

I have two different Tabbed UI menus designed depending on what user logs in.

I have modified the the A5W Page name under Tabbed UI properties accordingly to ensure they are not duplicated.
I have republished the entire project completely.
When I navigate to the A5W pages in Firefox, the correct A5W page names appear in the browser navigation bar.
I have shutdown Firefox and restarted with same result, rebooted the machine, hit reload on the browser, etc. to.

Specifically, two menu names are HomeLandscape.A5W and HomeCompliance.A5W. HomeCompliance.A5W is the menu that is always displayed, even though the browser navigation bar shows HomeLandscape.A5W. Everything looks fine in AlphaFive with the only remotely potential problem being that I noticed the ComplianceMenu shows a type of "Tabbedui" in the type column, where LandscapeMenu shows a type of "TabbedUI". If it matters, ComplianceMenu was duplicated and then modified from LandscapeMenu,

These are the only TabbedUI menus that I have created, but plan on creating several more.

I have no idea what else to check. Any ideas? Thanks...

    Andrew,

Honestly, I have no idea what you are trying to say. A screenshot or two may go a long way to help us understand. One thing though, if you copied a tabbed_ui to create a 2nd one, you would need to change the a5w page name that the tabbed_ui references under properties.

Re: Tabbed UI Menu duplication/display problem

      Good morning Peter,

I have included two screen shots of the issue. On the Landscape screenshot, you will notice HomeLandscape.a5w in the navigation bar and also WorkFlow on the side menu bar as a selection. WorkFlow should not be on the HomeLandscape.a5w page. The Compliance Sign screenshot shows HomeCompliance.a5w in the navigation bar and has all of the correct menu choices on the side menu bar.

I have verified several times over that the AlphaFive TabbedUI components are in fact different. I have also rechecked that the A5W page name is correct for each of the Menus under the Tabbed UI Properties, i.e. HomeLandscape and HomeCompliance.

      Thanks for looking

I don't knwo how you handling the header, but it seems that you have the same tabbed_ui on both a5w pages. You can check this by going to your webroot and examining the two a5w pages. Look at the xbasic and find the reference to the tabbed_ui. I bet they are both the same. If so, you can remedy this by opening each tabbed ui (or the erroneous one), make a change and republish. That should fix it.

Re: Tabbed UI Menu duplication/display problem

I went to the A5Webroot directory and found:
          compliancemenu.a5wcmp 164k
          landscapemenu.a5wcmp 208k

I couldn't edit these files and windows could not find a program to edit them with.

I went into Alpha and checked the source code in the A5W pages and found:
          Load:LandscapeMenu in the HomeLandscape page
          Load:ComplianceMenu in the HomeCompliance page

Note: I understood that you could not edit A5W pages generated from TabbedUI's anyway because they are generated when you publish the TabbedUI components correct?

I went back into Firefox and erased all history and cookies. It almost seems to me like Firefox is pulling up an old version of the menu out of the cache, unless Alpha forces it reload each time.

I have attached the two photos of the TabbedUI Builder of the two problem Tabbed UI's to show that the menu sidebar is in fact different.

I am sure it is some boneheaded thing I am doing again.

          Thanks....

Not exactly. The pages are generated and re-generated every time you do a save while editing a tabbed ui. But you can edit the page. Trouble is, next time you do a save it overwrites the page.

Do this: go to the web control panel - a5w pages. Open the two tabbed_ui pages in the html editor. Click on each page and the lightening bolt on the menu. That will open each page and their respective tabbedui in your browser. If each page in the browser shows the correct tabbed_ui then at least you know your pages are good. If that works, publish each page to localhost from the html editor and run it again.

Re: Tabbed UI Menu duplication/display problem

I pulled each page up in the HTML editor and hit the execute button and they worked.

I then published the LandscapeMenu.a5w page and it now displays correctly.

I don't understand why it worked out this way. I know for a fact that when I first had the problem, I republished the entire project and unchecked the box for Publish new files only. I remember vividly, because it takes a while to publish the entire project. I assume that Publish Web Project does the A5W pages as well as the web components correct?

Nevertheless, you found the problem Peter, thank you very much.

Publishing is hit or miss. Sometimes it misses. Glad it's working for you.
