Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

ISO brainstorming how to pull this together

I'm new, but I have invested a lot of time watching videos and getting accustomed to A5. I love it, but I'm not a programmer, and I'm having difficulty deciding which tools to use for this task. I have the backend tables in SQL.

My goal is an input form for a contract between two entities. The contract table has many many children tables for the applicable terms (ie, fixed weekly compensation, variable compensation, travel terms, housing, days off, billing in theatre programs etc etc etc).

Visually I need to always see a section that has the fields from the contract table, and separate containers for each of the terms (some via forms, some via repeating panels, etc).

    1. DIALOG
I think my task is a prime use for the Dialog component. I am basically trying to bind a gazillion little textboxes to specific columns in specific tables. It was working beautifully for me, but it freezes up for me when I try to add a lot of controls and containers. Or, I get Script Error Messages when I run it. What do I need to learn to be able to hard code this? Or to access the code to fix it? For example, the Script Error message says:
    Line 402
    Char 1386
Error Object doesn't support property or method 'set attribute'
    URL: a5res:javascript/a5.js

I'm glad to learn how to code and fix that, but I can't even FIND the code....

    2. TABBED UI:
I like this component, as I can create separate Grid Components for each of the terms, and list them in a tree control in the left hand panel. However:
    a. I cannot figure out a way to incorporate the fields from the contract table; it doesn't make sense to have to build them into each child table over and over
    b. I do not understand how to link 2 grid components within a Tabbed UI

    3. PAGE BUILDER
I can plunk in multiple grid components, but I do not understand how to link 2 grid components within Page Builder

    Appreciate suggestions

Do you have a screen shot of what you've done so far. I can't really picture it...

@lvasic - thank you for responding.

A5 has told me that I was going about this wrong.

I cannot link CONTENT via a Tabbed UI or Page Builder; the ONLY thing you can link to are constant values, or argument values.

So, I have to use the Grid Component with Linked Content.

And, for the Dialog script issues that I've encountered, I've sent them off to A5 for review.
