Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Hiding the submit button

    Hi

    I have searched the forum for a way to hide the submit button conditionally.

    There are a few "solutions" posted like

    1.
    e.javascript= "$('"+e.tmpl.componentName+".GRID_PART.SUBMITBUTTON_BOTTOM').style.display= 'none';$('"+e.tmpl.componentName+".GRID_PART.CANCELBUTTON_BOTTOM').style.display = 'none';"

    and

    2.
    $('GRID1.GRID_PART.SUBMITBUTTON_BOTTOM').style.display='none'; -> off
    $('GRID1.GRID_PART.SUBMITBUTTON_BOTTOM').style.display='none'; -> show

    I have not been able to get the first way to work. Clicking the button will initiate something without error (not sure what) , but it will not hide these buttons.

    The strangest thing though is the second solution: These statements work perfectly fine in the working preview, but will not work in the final published product.

    Any quick help is highly appreciated.

    PS: If somebody can explain the "e.javascript" to me, that would be great, too. Is this an alternative to returning the
    java code as Call_back_function="...code...;" ????

    Re: Hiding the submit button

    I'm not sure what your goal is.
    On the registratioin page I am currently working on, I put
    Code:
    FirstName != '' and LastName !='' and email !='' and Phone !='' and UserName != '' and UserPassword !=''
    in the show/hide expression for clientside properties.

    I did it because of the frustration when I accidently hit the submit button on my iphone before I got most of the
    fields filled out. This hides the button until all but the confirm password fields are dirty.

      Re: Hiding the submit button

      Thanks Gregg,

      My condition is a little bit more complex, but I could set a hidden field to a value and hide the Submit button with "Fieldname ==X"

      BUT: Excuse my ignorance, can you give me the exact name of the client side properties you are talking about?
      I searched for "Submit" under the Grid Properties, but no luck.

      Thanks

              See if following gets you to your destination:
              In RecordNav/Grid TB -> GridTB Template, insert template for editable grid. The last row holds the placeholder for the submit button. Wrap it with an span with an id. You can then use the action JS Toggle visibility of container or write your own js and place it in a client side event to to show/hide the span.

                Thanks to all.

                I will try this, although - I'm a newbie - it is not that clear to me yet.

                It amazes me though that with all the other options for the navigation bar, the submit and cancel buttons somehow where forgotten.
                I thought it would be an easy and common thing to prevent submitting (other than with simple field validation rules.)

                Also why is the "onGridDirty" event not exposed - obviously the Submit/Cancel buttons get it.

                  OK,

                  here is my own (NOT TESTED) solution - a true workaround - or "from the back, through the chest into the eye" as we say in Germany:

                  I will create a hidden field that is set to "false" if the complex condition is not met.

                  In the CanGridSubmit event I test this field, alert the user and return false..

                    Re: Hiding the submit button

                    I have often taken the submit button out of the grid toolbar (Customize Grid toolbar) and created my own Action button with the inline javascript for submitting a grid. I set the Enable rules on the action button to various things depending on my grid. (of course, one of them being that the grid is dirty). Then I go put that Action button in the same place that the submit button stuff from the template was. This generally means I also create an Action button for Cancel Edits, too.

                      Hey Carol...you just confirmed what I spent hours trying to figure out.
                      For the benefit of others, the pic below shows where the options are to
                      hide the submit buttons.
