Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Reports in a webpage using XPS: how is it done?

    Hi,
    I have a 64-bit Windows 7 PC. I am using Alpha Five Developer v11 build 2396-3864.

I'm trying to create an a5w webpage to show a report. This is what I do:

    In Windows 7
    - Control Panel - Devices and Printers - Microsoft XPS Document Writer --> I uncheck "Automatically open XPS documents using the XPS viewer"
    - The Microsoft XPS Document Writer is selected as the default printer

    In Alpha Five v11:
    - In the Web Projects Control Panel - Project Properties - PDF Printing Options I select both options (Use Microsft XPS ... and Convert XPS files ...)
    - In the Control Panel - Reports tab I create a report, preview the report to see that it's OK and then save the report (called it Prueba05).
    - I now create a new Web Component - Page Layout Builder. In Page Layout Parts I add the report.
    - When clicking the Live Preview tab, the report does not show up. Instead I get this error message (see also attached images):

    404 Not Found
The requested URL /A5SessionFile/Prueba05_180212132417263.xps was not found on this server.

I have been struggling to fix this, to no avail. I would be (very) grateful for any suggestions, tips or hints.

    Best regards,
    Felix

Reports in a webpage using XPS: how is it done? --> sandboxed

      .
      Hi Steve,
I am running Alpha Five v11 Developer in a Sandboxie sandbox. My supposition: Alpha Five was trying to write the xps file to the "real world" (in my case it was Prueba05_180212132417263.xps), possibly because the Microsoft XPS Document Writer is not in the sandbox but in the real world. Since Sandboxie did not allow Alpha Five to write outside the sandbox, no xps file was generated.

My solution: using the Sandboxie settings, I gave Alpha Five permission to write in the (real world) drive where it wanted to generate the xps file. The problem went away.

NOTE/ADDENDA: I am using the Microsoft XPS Document Writer because I can't get the Amyuni virtual printer to work with a sandboxed Alpha Five.

Reports in a webpage using XPS: how is it done? --> sandbox

          .
          Hi Joshua,
I'm running Alpha Five Developer v11 inside a sandbox, using Sandboxie. If you have never used Sandboxie or know what a sandbox is, then probably you'll find my explanation a bit uninteligible. Anyway, that means that you have installed Alpha Five the usual way (ie not inside a sandbox) and therefore my case is not applicable to you. Sorry not to be able to be of much help.

          Regards,

I would suggest that you add to each of your posts that you are using sandboxie...

I'd suggest that it goes in your signature line but that method changes all posts whether it's applicable or not..

I noticed someone else that added their hardware/OS specs to messages. Good idea and useful information.

I'm thinking that the sandboxie idea is good, but is going to lead to a few other issues with a product like Alpha that integrates with other systems that might not be in the sandbox.
