Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Login From A Mobile Device

Is there a way to distinguish between a login being done from a mobile device vs. one just logging in with a desktop or laptop?

What I'd like to do is have a mobile site that could have a login that would redirect to a tabbed_UI that is configured for mobile use. We already have a "native" site with its traditional login.

We have the mobile UI ready to go. Just wondering how to be able to have mobile devices go to the Mobile UI and everything else to to the native UI.

    Thoughts and Suggestions?

    Thanks!

Selwyn I asked for an adjustment for the tabbedui dynamically adapt based on the Desktop vs. Browser or Mobile device in the component. That's not easy to realize is his answer. It is listed on the R & D todo. Date not known uberhaupt asking if it ever comes. So what you can do with a workaround is to create two versions of your tabbedui 1) for desktop browser and 1) for Mobile. Check via user agent on device and use response.direct.

Re: Login From A Mobile Device

As a person that uses a mobile device often, I myself get frustrated when I am directed away from the full site without being
given the option. This frustration is there because the mobile sites are usually watered down, and missing something the main
        site has.

Not to say it's wrong, just a pet peeve I personally have.

I think a little patient is on it's place waiting for what more is to come as the Mobile framework as Alphasoftware mentioned. There is littele to nothing to share because there is no information about what, sorry I can't give you the answer. What I did with this create workaround and set the stylesheet dynamic using <session:yourStyle> in your projectfolder link the style sheets and call the <....> in the component.

I guess it is not too big of a deal to create a "workaround" for now until something else comes up.

I can direct users from the "native" site and the mobile site to the same "native" login page.

Once someone logs in, the first page they will be presented with will have the choice to go to the "native" rendering of the site (tabbed_ui1) or the mobile rendering (tabbed_ui2).

The users can have the choice like you stated above madtowng.

Not that big of a deal.

            Thanks for your input!

Exactly, you can ask yourself whether you like it or not or to let your users make the choice.

In my apps each user has a profile with preferences and style sheets, etc.
The user has option to what specify stylesheet does he want to charge per device. Is there is no preference then he gets the default value of the system for that device
