Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How to open tab/pane after login?

    Hi,

    I have a Tabbed UI and a Login component. When a user logs in I want to open a tab other than the home tab depending on the Users Role. Just like if the user himself clicked on a tabbed UI Button available to him.

    And the tab really should only open when the user successfully logs in.
    E.G: If the Admin logs in the tab should not open.

    Can anybody tell be how this is done?
    Thank you!

    Hi Gamma -
    Not sure if this will help, but, as I'm learning about Tabbed UI today too, I thought I would chime in with a piece that I found that might help.

    In the Tabbed UI, select the component that you want to AutoLaunch.
    IN the Properties Panel on the right hand side, there is an option for: Auto Launch on Startup

    toggle that on.

    That takes care of having it be the first tab, rather than the Home taab.

    As for customizing it based on user.... I haven't dealt with that yet, but I'd go to Security Groups further down on the panel.

    If you know how to have the Pane Titles be dynamic - please let me know. For example, if the user clicks on a grid to see Marion's contract, and another pane opens with the details about Marion's contract, I'd like the Pane Title to be: Marion, or Marion MM/dd/yyyy or some such thing.... Otherwise, I'll end up with a bunch of Panes that all say 'Contract'

        Re: How to open tab/pane after login?

        Hi Marion,

        thanks for the tip. I also thought the auto launch sounded like what I wanted to do. But my initial Page before login shall still be the homepage and selecting auto launch did not do anything I could see. I watch the videos and found this one http://www.ajaxvideotutorials.com/V1...IComponent.swf and this is exactly what I needed as it seems to take care about the security all by itself.

        I did not do any dynamic pane titles but it might just work like the dynamic labels I did. Flag the pane title with a language tag like
        Code:
        <a5:r>Pane1</a5:r>
        and then under Properties> Language definitions you can set an expression like
        Code:
        Pane1=expn:date()
        or whatever you want it to be. Hope this helps.

          @Gamma -

          good to hear that you have your auto launch working.

          thanks for the tip about dynamic pane titles - trying it now...

          ok, here's the scoop after a bit of fiddling around.

          In the Tabbed UI, I autoload Grid1; I am content (for the moment) to have static text as the title for that Pane's tab.

          Within the Tabbed UI, add the <a5:r>Pane</a5:r> setting to the Language Def

          Other panes are called upon via a Button field in the Grid1 component.
          So I edit Grid1, and go to the Button field's Javascript.OnClick dialog window, and in the Target settings, since I've selected Tabbed UI Pane, I have: Pane title as a property setting (with the word, Pane)

          And I replace Pane with: {ContractID} {Lastname}

          (actually, I first entered Pane=expn:{ContractID}{Lastname}, but that gave me Pane=expn:5435Jones)

          Perfect. Of course, now I have to figure out what I actually want to have in the tab, but that's a different issue....

          QUESTION: what is the syntax for a LineFeed between {ContractID} and {Lastname}
