Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Accessing and Entering QBE Field Selections

I have a grid displaying fields to give an overall view of claimant information. I am using a QBE row for custom user filtering creating a query genie basically. This is all good and operating fine so far. The client would like to be able to save the selections from those fields and filters by logged in user so that they can be retrieved again at a later date. I'm brainstorming the approach for this now and am thinking that I would need to collect the QBE field data and the underlying filter string and save this to a table by userID and a saved name so a user could get saved filter configurations from a dropdown by the saved name. Hope this makes sense.

    Any advice?

Can I collect the field data and filter information from a QBE row?

Re: Accessing and Entering QBE Field Selections

Have you tried using the option within the search part, to Save and Load Searches?

I haven't used it, and I don't know if it will hold the search that was created b a QBE (which is created in the Grid, not from the Search Part), but I figured I'd throw that out to you....

Re: Accessing and Entering QBE Field Selections

I was thinking the same thing that the QBE is not really part of the Search Part but more with the Grid part, but it is certainly worth trying. It would be nice to save the QBE fields and reload the fields when saving or loading a filter, but if not I'm thinking if I can get the filter string that is applied to the grid when the QBE is run then I could save that and apply it when loaded. Something along that line. I have to sit down and stat playing with some options.

If anyone has done something similar or knows how to access the QBE fileds and/or filter that is used on the grid I could use that help.

Re: Accessing and Entering QBE Field Selections

I've gotten back to this part of my development and as Marion suggested I looked into using the SearchPart of the grid and using the Save and Load Search Criteria. This has turned out to be a much better direction for what I am trying to achieve with just one exception.

Saved search criteria is shown for all users that saved criteria for a given component. The Load Criteria button displays the saved criteria filtered for that component (which is fine and makes sense) but it shows for all users. My client wants to only see the saved criteria in the list by user, meaning only the criteria that she has saved and not others. I see in the table a field to hold the user ID but there is no built in feature to filter by this that I can see.

Is there any way I can filter the saved criteria by User ID so only that person's saved criteria shows up in the load list? I really need this to work somehow.

Re: Accessing and Entering QBE Field Selections

Any thoughts anyone? Alpha employees? Is this possible or am I up the creek in this regard?

Personally I think letting all users see what criteria has already been saved and making use of that is the better design decision and is what I am going to attempt to get across to the client when I meet tomorrow, BUT....we all know how clients can be and this is originally what they wanted so I really need a plan B and making use of what Alpha already has would be the better plan B.

Re: Accessing and Entering QBE Field Selections

Thought this might do better in a new thread with more specific title.
