Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Multiple Choice Search based on a second table

Main table is COLLECTION (of films)
Each film may have a number (1 to 5) of STANDARDS (education) assigned to it.
In a row expander linked to the collection, the standards are selected and populate a table called STANDARDSLIST. The "human names" for these selections are in a table called STANDARDS.

COLLECTION linked to STANDARDSLIST >> Selected from STANDARDS

    <So far no problem with one-many link>

On a view only page the user can select (checkbox) a dynamically populated list of these STANDARDSLIST and the grid displays the correct films. This is working by selecting the linkID's at this time. (see pic)

So if that all made sense.......
How do I get the checkbox selections to display the human name (from STANDARDS) while the fill data has to come from the data in STANDARDSLIST?

I have attached a few pics to help. - Dave

    maybe I'm not understanding, but....

In the dialog shown in your 3rd photo, there are line items for:

    Display value
    Store value

You currently have them both set as: StandsID

Change the Display value to be: StandsLabel

(or whatever it is you have the field titled in your Standards table....)

Re: Multiple Choice Search based on a second table

      Marion,
The label is in the 3rd DB. (STANDARDS) which is a simple list with an ID# and the label "Human resources and Law" for example.
Since that is a 3rd table, which links to the 2nd table (STANDARDSLIST - a multiple entry listing with 2 fields -COLLECTION ID (link) and the STANDARDS ID)
The delema is using the Label from the 3rd table to dynamically populate the list of checkboxed, and then storing the STANDARDS ID into the COLLECTIONS ID for searching.

If this is confusing (no doubt) Any method to find records based on multiple (and different) criteria with a simple checkbox interface is what is needed.

      Hope that helps! - Dave

Re: Multiple Choice Search based on a second table

        Am I understanding this correctly?

Table1 = Collections table has a column for CollectionID
Table2 = StandardsList, which maps CollectionID and StandardsID (this is a mapping table)
Table3 = Standards, which has StandardsID and StandardsHumanPhrase

Create a view (which from your photos it seems that you've done), joining Table1 and Table2

If you have 10 records in Table1, and 25 in Table2, your grid would show the full 25 records created by the mapping

During the join, you need to include Table2.StandardsID as a field

The dropdown is based on Table2.StandardsID linked to Table3.StandardsID; instead of trying to leap from Table1 to Table3, you will simply hop from View to Table 3

If this isn't it, I'm clearly not understanding the problem, and will step away
