Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Dialog Components - Version 11 - Navigation

    Good Afternoon,

I created a dialog component and the component is bound to an existing table. It shows one record in the table when viewed in Working Preview. I can add records to the table via the dialog component. Is there a way to navigate all of the records in the table via the dialog component? When I wanted to see a record in the existing table, I set it to show Record 0. That is the only record it shows.

    Thanks.

    Hi Steve.
If your "navigate all of the records" is meaning you want to search the records, there are a couple ways to accomplish it.

A question is: Do you want to see the records in a table in the dialog and have something search / filter the table

    or

Do you want a search component that is progressive but shows the filtering as you type?

If you want a table to view all records, take a look at the video: http://www.ajaxvideotutorials.com/V1...nent_Grid1.swf

If you only want to search and return a specific record, use a textbox or dropdownbox control using the lookup properties.

Re: Dialog Components - Version 11 - Navigation

I have a dialog component very similar in format to an invoice format, with a single record at the top and a repeating section at the bottom. The component is based on two different tables. The tables are linked in a one to many relationship. I have a submit, reset and a new record button. I have bound the upper part of the grid to a table. When I open the grid component, I would like to navigate through the records. The dialog component allows me to input data and create a new record. It does not allow me to navigate through the records. I hope this makes better sense. Thanks for responding.

        This sounds very similiar --
        Check out http://www.ajaxvideotutorials.com/V1...Data_part1.swf
        and
        http://www.ajaxvideotutorials.com/V1...Data_part2.swf

take the video idea and expand it with a lookup table pointing to inv numbers or last name or the like -- use the contains property and in two or three keystrokes you have filtered to the record you want.
