Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Application Server does not run php/asp/aspx files?

I need to redirect one of my pages to a php or asp or aspx page that will reside in my a5webroot directory, but the a5 application server shows the contents of the file instead of running it. What should i do? I have IIS disabled and uninstalled Apache on that server they day i installed a5 application server...

    Thanks

    Jaime,

You can't run/execute a PHP/ASP page inside the A5 webroot has only has understanding of A5W pages for Xbasic script language.

Re: Application Server does not run php/asp/aspx files?

You have to redirect it to a server that understands PHP, like the IIS or Apache you removed. If the are on the same hardware you'd have to run the two servers on different ports, only one can be on port 80. I run a message board on PHP and control the PHP system's database from Alpha Five, but they are on different servers.

Re: Application Server does not run php/asp/aspx files?

So, i should reinstall Apache or IIS then set it to listen to a different port? Assuming i setup apache to work with port 8080, how do i call the local php file from my dialog? Currently i used an Action Script and set the url with it's parameters in it. Should it be something like MyPage.php:8080?Var1=1&Var2=2 ?

          Thanks

I'm hoping this restriction will change once we get access to the IIS WAS plugin :)

            You'll probably need a fqdn, like www.example.com:8080/mypage.php?var1=1&var2=2

In effect, you'll be creating your own 'api'

fqdn?? the whole point is that i need to run a local php or asp or aspx page on my server which runs only the WAS now...
in the meantime i reinstalled iis and set it to listen to port 8877 will try some tests later we'll see if it works...

Re: Application Server does not run php/asp/aspx files?

I have IIS running like normal, on port 80. I have Alpha running on port 88.

For users, they simply go to totallycovered.net/office . There, they click on a logo, which links to totallycovered.net:88/orlandooffice/ (thereby showing the Alpha five login page). From there, alpha runs great, and if I need to reference something from IIS, I just link to it using a standard URL. They're served up by IIS, which is working on port 80. You could even show your php/port 80 content inside a frame on an alpha page, I would guess.

                  Hi Derek,

I just went to totallycovered.net and got an error. I wanted to see what you were talking about since I wanted to run a php server on my alpha five dev server. Is this site still up?

Have you (since this thread) tried to run php inside a frame in alpha?

                        Hi Lars,

We're moving servers around, but the site is up. When you go to totallycovered.net/office, just click on "index.html" (an extra step that I'll fix tomorrow or so).

Somewhat unrelated, but as an example of what Al Buchholz said:

We also have alpha inside a frame on our regular site. If you go to totallycovered.net, then mouse over "Support and Repair", and click "Check Work Status", you'll see an alpha widget (grid) embedded in our site. Customers can enter a PIN number, and alpha will serve up the status of their repair in our store. This all appears inside a frame on our "regular" Joomla site, which is served by Apache on a different machine (formerly we used IIS -- but as we've added more servers, free linux stuff became more attractive. Obviously, Alpha is running on a Windows server.)
