Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Google Map Videos

At the beginning of the google map videos, there is a link to download the Airport database used in the videos. I've downloaded 3 times and extracted three times. However, the only file I get is the airports.bak file. Has anyone downloaded this file and were you able to extract all the files?

    Thanks,

    kenn

        Hi Kenn,

In SQLServer select the databases folder.
        Right Click the folder.
        Select "Restore Database".
In the "To Database" field type in the name of the database in this case "Airports" or whatever you want to call it.
Select the Device radio button and navigate to the Airports.bak file.
In the back up sets to restore window select that file and click "Restore" Radio button
Finally click on the Ok button and the database will go into the database folder.

        Regards
        Andy

          Thanks, Andy!

When the instructions said, "(These videos all use the sample Microsoft SQL Server SQL Airports Database. You can download this database).", I assumed I would get the database. Guess I need to learn to read between the lines. LOL

            Re: Google Map Videos

In Program Files (x86), I found Microsoft SQL Server. I opened that folder but did not find Server SQL Airports Database or even a Databases folder. I only found a folder called "100" which contains .dll files.

In Program Files (x86), I also found Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition. Inside that I found the folder v3.1 which are program files and a readme file.

In Program Files (x86), there is also a MySQL folder which contains several sub folders but no airports database. When right clicking on any folder, the only Restore available is Restore Previous Versions.

            Where should I look next?

            Thanks,

            kenn

When you download the .bak file - you can save it anywhere you like, once you have done the download open SQL and right click the database, click you want to run the TASK restore a database. Locate the .bak file and click it - then name the database you want to restore it as. Then follow your instincts. The table will appear a a SQL database.

                  Kenn,

You can download SQLServer Express 2008 R2 from Microsoft, its free.

                  http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/e...s/express.aspx

Thats probably your best bet, there are many tutorials about using it on the internet and Youtube videos can be a good source.

If you get any problems PM me but bear in mind the time difference between us.

                  Regards
                  Andy
