Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Filtering a grid using an argument

    Hi

    I have a grid that is being filtered on an argument. Based on MS SQL a session variable has been created containing a crlf list of the groups assigned to the user. I know this is successfully populating as I have displayed it on the grid component and can also see it using a5w_info().

    I have declared the argument (called grouplist) within the component using a session variable which is based upon a SQL select statement using "IN"

    Code:
    SELECT *
    FROM CustAudit
    WHERE customer IN (:grouplist)
    I am populating the session variable at login using

    Code:
    session.grouplist = crlf_to_comma(a5ws_get_user_assignments(rs.data("userid"),request))
    I have also tried

    Code:
    session.grouplist = a5ws_get_user_assignments(rs.data("userid")),request)
    I have also tried with and without the "request" parameter.

    Clearly I am missing something but cannot figure out what! Any help much appreciated.

    Re: Filtering a grid using an argument

    One update on this. I have discovered that if there is only one user role then the filter works, as soon as there is more than one user role it fallsover and returns no records! I know the SQL IN function works as have tested with hard coded values in Navicat.

      Glen - I can't quickly find the threads, but a few of us have figured out that using an argument with the MYSQL IN statement won't work.

      Instead, you'll need to do a bit of string handling, and not use the argument.

        Thanks Steve

        Actually just heard back from Selwyn who confirms that at the moment arguments cannot handle arrays within Alpha hence why it fell over with more than one line. Evidently this may well be included in a future release.

          Re: Filtering a grid using an argument

          To close out this thread I have successfully resolved my issue thanks to the pointers on here and from Selwyn. I thought I would post it for future reference.

          Problem: Filtering a grid component based upon the values contained in the user groups assigned to the logged in user. This could be just one user group, some user groups or all.

          First of all I created a session variable called session.grouplist which is populated at login using
          Code:
          dim session.grouplist as C
          session.grouplist = a5ws_get_user_assignments(rs.data("userid"))
          Where userid has been grabbed from the logged in users record. This produces a crlf list of all groups that have been assigned (and this is why the argument filter in the component does not work as mentioned in earlier posts)

          Then I have to add some code to two different server side events to override the sql query that would normally be fired by the component.

          onSQLSelectQuery

          Code:
          function onSQLSelectQuery as v (e as p)
          dim list as c
          dim argcount as n = 1
          dim argname as c = "arg"
          dim argvalue as c = ""
          list = session.grouplist

          FOR each x in list
          argvalue = x
          argname = "arg"+alltrim(str(argcount))
          e.arguments.add(argname,argvalue)
          argcount = argcount+1
          next

          dim sql as c
          sql = "select * from custaudit WHERE customer = :whatcustomer"
          dim q as sql::Query
          flag = q.parse(sql)
          list = *for_each(x,"customer = :arg" + *index(),list)
          list = stritran( alltrim(list), crlf(),  " or ")
          dim le as sql::query::LogicalExpression
          dim flag as l
          flag = le.parse(list)
          q.where = le
          sql=q.SQLStatement

          e.cn.portableSQLEnabled = .f.
          flag = e.cn.execute(sql,e.arguments)
          if flag = .t. then
          dim rs as sql::resultset
          e.rs = e.cn.resultset
          e.handled = .t.
          else
          e.fatalError = .t.
          e.errorText = e.cn.callresult.text
          end if

          end function
          Also

          onSQLCountQuery

          Code:
          function onSQLCountQuery as v (e as p)
          dim list as c
          dim argcount as n = 1
          dim argname as c = "arg"
          dim argvalue as c = ""
          list = session.grouplist

          FOR each x in list
          argvalue = x
          argname = "arg"+alltrim(str(argcount))
          e.arguments.add(argname,argvalue)
          argcount = argcount+1
          next

          dim flag as l
          e.cn.portableSQLEnabled = .f.
          dim sql as c
          sql = "select * from custaudit WHERE customer = :whatcustomer"
          dim q as sql::Query
          flag = q.parse(sql)
          list = *for_each(x,"customer = :arg" + *index(),list)
          list = stritran( alltrim(list), crlf(),  " or ")
          dim le as sql::query::LogicalExpression
          dim flag as l
          flag = le.parse(list)
          q.where = le
          sql=q.SQLStatement

          flag = e.cn.execute(sql,e.arguments)

          if flag = .t. then
          dim rs as sql::resultset
          rs = e.cn.resultset
          e.count = rs.data(1)
          e.handled = .t.
          else
          e.fatalError = .t.
          e.errorText = e.cn.callresult.text
          end if
          end function
          The code needs some tidying up but it works as expected, a good (late) nights work!
