Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Preventing CSS from tabbedui parent

    Hi
In my application all grids and dialogs are getting the CSS from the parent/calling tabbedui dialog. I cannot find the setting to have each one use it's one defined CSS, not the parent's one...

    Thanks
    Jaime

Re: Preventing CSS from tabbedui parent

So, was it a matter of informing the tabbed-ui to load in the local CSS definitions from the child grids by using the "Linked Resources" property in tabbed-ui?

      LinkLocalCSStoTabbedUi.png

I need to go a bit further in my app and change the CSS for the child component based on values from the parent record that opens the child grid!

Does anyone have suggestions on changing the CSS in a child grid based on values from the parent record where it is opened from?

What I need help with is, do I setup a mechanism that allows the child grid to refer to CSS class selectors using placeholder names and how do I do that? Or, do I always use the same class selector names and just dynamically change their definitions? If I do the latter then how could I have two instances of the child grid open in the tabbed-ui that need different definitions of the CSS?

Re: Preventing CSS from tabbedui parent

Well i thought i did it this afternoon, and now while double-checking, i can only see in all grids and dialogs the parent grBlue style from the tabbedui, no matter what i do.
Previously what i did is save the grRed from the grid from system to local, set the linked resources, and also added grRed in "Additional Grid Styles" and "CSS Linked files". Still, no go :-(

Jaime, I believe you are correct. A5 Tabbed-ui is not letting child grids use their own style. There are other posts here regarding it. Perhaps a closer look at those posts would reveal a solution.

Otherwise, I would say the help text for the "Additional Grid Styles" property in the tabbed-ui has a documentation bug. I followed the instructions listed in the little help window for that property. I added a comma delimited list of style names used by the grids and still they loaded with the tabbed-ui style and not their own. I was careful to republish all files and components. Could you submit it as a documentation bug to Alpha? They like to have a sample with anything that gets submitted and I don't have a clean sample to send right now.

Have you listed the css in the additional grid styles and turned off the use master style checkbox in the component definition.

              Chad,
Yes, for this example I put "Clover, BlackWhite, GrPurple, GradientTan" in the "Additional Grid Styles" property for the tabbed-ui and I set a few of the grids to use those styles.

No, I cannot find a "Use master style" checkbox in the grid properties.

There is the "Use master template" checkbox which I keep turned off.

Re: Preventing CSS from tabbedui parent

Yep, and it works for me after removing the spaces that followed the commas in my list for "Additional grid styles".

I still think the onscreen help text for Additional Grid Styles should instruct user to clear the "Use master style" checkbox.

It will only happen once to each of us. Oh and while they are at fixing that when you choose "use master style" checkbox off the help should tell you to remember to include the css in the "Additional grid styles".
