Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

How cool would it be for Alpha to make a video showing how this free software works, displaying a table top full of mobile devices with an app on them built using Alpha Five?

How cool would it be for Alpha to complete the rest of the mobile components slated for release w/v11 along with videos and instructions on how to tie the components together.

True all components need to be mobile compliant including pinch and swipe. This needs to be at the top of most of our lists and alpha's. I believe it was one of the main features promised in v11, but I am sure someone will correct me.

Has anyone had success using device emulation software, so you don't have to buy a bunch of mobile phones? Adobe has their Device Central software (broken link removed)

I gave a quick test, but I could not get past the login screen with my A5 app without getting some sort of error. But I could run the Web Applications demo okay.

Yes, Alpha Software did hype up mobile development quite a lot prior to version 11 release. The last comment regarding mobile development that I saw on their blog was sometime in April of last year: "We're still baking the mobile development framework in the oven and it hasn't passed the sniff test yet, but I just can't resist giving you a taste of it." Cute metaphors aside, a big part of my decision to buy Version 11 was the promised mobile capabilities -- the tablet demo with Google maps was quite convincing, but I assume now that it was done with external technology enhancements (jQuery, HTML5, etc.) rather than entirely with the off-the-shelf A5 v.11 framework.

Apparently, "mobilizing" the framework is going to require a fair amount of jQuery and HTML5 running inside the framework, and I don't assume that this is a simple task.

However, since my next project is going to be a mobile app, I sure hope that at least the basic mobile capabilities (pinch, swipe, tap, automatic screen adjustments for different form factors, etc.) will come online sooner rather than later. If not, I'll have to go with something like PhoneGap or Titanium or something else to get this cross-platform mobile project done. For decision making purposes it would be nice to know how close A5 is to releasing the long promised mobile bits of Version 11.

I couldn't agree with you more. I too expected v11 mobile app to be a viable option by now. I'm certainly not as adept as others in putting a mobile app together and without a finished product from Alpha, I'm dead in the water. Maybe they had to hire a new sniffer or maybe the present sniffer is so good he won't let any more be released.

Yes, it would be very nice to hear of an update from Alpha. While I'm a big Alpha supporter, common sense must prevail. I will not entertain the notion of another subscription package until Alpha comes through on this.
