Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Unable to login after publishing v10 application with v11

    Hello,

I am trying to migrate my v10 applications to v11. After publishing an application to my local webroot with v11, I am not able to login with a correct login name and password.

To migrate to v11 I did the following:

    - I copied the application to a new folder. (c:\v10databases\App1 to c:\v11databases\App1)
    - I then opened it in V11.
    - I deleted the folder under my local webroot to which I used to publish the web files with v10. (c:\A5Webroot\App1)
    - I then re-published everything with V11 to that same folder (which then gets re-created): I unchecked "new or modified files only". I also published the security files separately, checking "Data tables for users and groups" and unchecking "new or modified fiels only".

When I then test the application on my local machine, it doesn't seem to recognise the user id and password I usually use to log in as a test user. There is no error message. The application just reloads the login screen as it should when it doesn't find the user in the security tables. However, when I open the web security settings, user and group settings, page security settings, web profile etc. everything looks like it should be.

    What am I doing wrong?

I have also tried to backup the application with v10 and to restore it with v11 to the new folder (which then meant that I also had to re-do my publishing profiles from scratch). But this didn't work wither.

I would be very grateful for any hints!

    Thanks,

    Simone

Sounds like all the right steps. You verified you have users in your Users and Groups? Be sure to restart your web server, but sure you did that too. It actually is important to recreate your Profiles when copying V11 applications. The GUID is generated in the Profile, and if you make a copy, AND you use both copies, the GUID's will overlap and one of the apps will fail. I think you have a DBF application, but if it is SQL there are slightly different rules about how security is moved.

      Hi Steve,

Yes, I have a dbf application and I have been restarting the server after making changes.

Regarding the profiles, I haven't gotten to publishing anything to the server, yet. I am still trying to get the application to work on my local webroot. You mentined that profiles do need to be re-created, but I can't actually delete and re-create the local webroot profile.

I did look at the guid values (in websecurity_*.dbf) and they seem to look good (i.e. the guid belonging to a user of a certain group seems to be linked to the guid of that group).

Can you think of anything else I should do or could try. For example, are there security files I should delete so they get re-created?

I really hope I don't have to re-create all my users and groups (and therefore all page and component security) settings. To do that for each application would be a terrible amount of work, even if I didn't make any mistakes.

Thanks a lot for you help,

      Simone

I just noticed, that I am having the same problem when I create a completely new v11 database. So I must be doing something really stupid...
