Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How to trim trailing spaces in Auto-suggest lookup with multiple choices

    Hi
    I have set a lookup to Auto suggest list, and selected the option for multiple choices. The problem is that when selecting a value from the list, it comes with all the trailing spaces, then adds the "," char as selected. I would like the value returned by the autosuggest to be trimmed all trailing spaces.
    While checking the "lookup definition" dialog, in the Javascript section, there is a AfterSelect property where i can enter some javascript, so i guess that's where i should run the javascript to strip the trailing spaces, but i don't know how to reference there the current data and help is not very helpful in there.

    Thanks
    Jaime

    I had a similar problem. Selwyn Rabins of A5 told me how to reference the fields in the auto suggest list:
    There is a "data"-object and you simply add the name of the field you want to referenec, in my case the fieldname is "TYP":

    x=data.TYP;
    alert(x);

        Hi Dietmar
        I noticed indeed that data.MYLOOKUPFIELD contains the data newly selected, so i can trim the spaces from there, but how can i tell the lookup to use that value , i.e how do you set the value entered in the control from the lookup?

          Re: How to trim trailing spaces in Auto-suggest lookup with multiple choices

          In the AfterSelect Javascript you can do something like this:

          x=data.TYP;
          {Dialog.Object}.setValue('DialogfieldName',this.value + ' ' + x );
          or
          {Dialog.Object}.setValue('DialogfieldName', x );

            Thanks Dietmar.
            It still doesn't behave as expected :-( I am trying to select multiple countries in my textbox, so when entering code like:
            Code:
            var x = data.COUNTRYNAME.replace(/ /gi,'');
            {Dialog.Object}.setValue('COUNTRY',this.value + x +', ');
            Now when selecting France for instance, upon selecting, the result in my textbox is "France ,France," i.e the value returned by the autosuggest precedes whatever we do in the afterselect, there should be some clause to discard that value or at least to use the value in afterSelect as the value of the autosuggest...

              I think in this case you have
              - to remove this.value
              - get the current value first using var vCountry = {Dialog.Object}.getValue(xxxx)
              - if vCountry is not empty: setValue vCountry + add the new ones

              Hope you can get it to work!

                Good idea!
                Weird in this case they did not use the same notation is i saw, i.e setting the value of data in javascript would set the control...Anyway, yours seem to be a good workaround!

                Thanks

                  ...now that i think about it it won't be that easy...
                  In my opinion to get this to work i should set the starting value in another control or a session variable, then remove this.value and maintain the value in the hidden control...seems really quirky to me, not in line with Alpha's way of doing stuff. I am sure there must be a way to reference the value the lookup enters into the control directly and transform it right before it puts it there...
                  in the worst case, i'll use the workaround...

                  Anywayz, thank you for your help
